"Buran was directly inspired by the Space Shuttle." Never would have guessed...

YA-9 entered and lost the competition to the A-10 years before the T-8 prototype took its first flight. As with many other military projects in the West, the Soviets had advanced knowledge gained through espionage or some other means. If the Soviets ever mastered anything, it was spying. The coincidental resemblance is too great in this case. Related...

By all means, say that the other can only copy for, at all costs, maintain a sense of superiority ...
If I can admit the obvious resemblance of Buran with American shuttles, saying that a Su-25 looks like a YA-9 is in the field of disinformation, to say the least. But stay free to think ... the unthinkable.

Why copy the loser of a competition?

Btw, about the only thing that they "copied" was the general layout of engine location. Everything else from tail config, intake style, wing-location, engine type, gun type, cockpit location, etc was different between the two.

Not sure if pic is real and these are the actual positions of the outer pylons, but it's impressive nonetheless....

Are those Gripen tanks under that Draken?

Here's a nice F-15SA pic. Besides the known 12 AAM load, it shows the location of the 6th, downward facing MAWS sensor. At least I think so, right behind the orange test antenna, behind the radome.
