Newark Air Museum Briefing – 2018

It’s time to start a 2018 Newark Air Museum Briefing thread, through which I will endeavour to keep people advised of the day to day activities at NAM.

Again on behalf of everyone at Newark Air Museum I would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who visited in 2017 and supported the museum events and activities.

Details will continue to be added both here and to the – Latest News Page on the NAM website.

Also, details about the other events such as the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble Table Top Sale – 3 March 2018; etc. can be found on the Events Page here!

Happy New Year everyone and at a convenient time would it be possible for a kindly Mod to lock the 2017 Briefing thread?

Final reminder for now, NAM is shut today, Monday 1st January, but back open at 10am on Tuesday 2nd January.

Thank you Bruce for locking the 2017 thread!

Brenden S – thank you for the comment on the other thread and I cannot believe that it will soon be a year since your early morning visit to Newark.

David Burke – we certainly are and despite it ‘peeing’ it down here in Notts for most of the day the undercover facilities at NAM have been attracting the visitors; long may it continue. Now all we have to do is work on ‘discharging’ the conditions for the Building Regulations approval.

It has indeed gone quickly Brenden and any coverage is always appreciated, the museum has welcomed several Australian visitors over the recent holiday period and is always keen to welcome more!

Anyone visiting NAM this weekend is being advised that it’s best to approach the museum along Drove Lane from the A17 direction; it’s the Carole Nash Classic Bike Guide Winter Classic event on Showground and it’s likely to get busy by the A46 roundabout.

The museum is open as normal both days and the regular access advice can be found in here!

Further update about the next NAM Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble on Saturday 3rd March, 2018 has just been added to the museum website – info in here!

“34 tables of the 48 available have been allocated; plus we have recently sent out several booking forms to other potential sellers. N.B. This figure includes 7 (seven) new sellers, so we are now getting to the point of not being able to guarantee bookings, or locations for previous sellers who have not booked yet; please book soon to avoid disappointment!”

“42 tables of the 48 available have been allocated….”

Only 6 tables left to book – museum urging people to book soon to avoid disappointment!

Apologies to anyone sending PMs via this forum - family issues have prevented me from accessing the site on a regular basis in the last week or so (I will respond to PMs shortly)!

The Viggen Valet gallery on the NAM website now has some new photos in it from the first painting session earlier in the week – the ‘paint refreshment’ project on the Viggen is still very much one of work in progress, and one that is now waiting for the right temperature/humidity to allow more painting to proceed.

Here’s the link to the gallery!

If anyone is thinking of visiting tomorrow please approach long Drove Lane from the A17 direction as there’s an Autojumble event on the Showground – likely to be busy!!

Hi Twin Otter, Are there early bird tickets for the aerojumble? If so what are the prices over normal tickets and what time do the doors open. Thanks in advance.

Sorry FLY BUY there is no early-bird entry for The Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble – the gates will open to the public at 9am; prior to that the only entry will be sellers & their accredited helpers and museum members.

It is still hoped to do cash entries via the Southfield Site entrance as per the last two events in 2017, but this could still depend on the progress and site development situation in the area around Hangar 2. I’m helping to look after that development work and I will make sure that a full update goes onto the NAM website as soon as the situation is full established – info will go in here!

Yesterday some fresh pictures were added to the Viggen Valet gallery on the NAM website.

Also the revisions to the re-arranged Indoor Aeroboot/Aerojumble on Saturday 14th April were discussed yesterday – a few emails need to be sent out before a full update is provided.

Adverse weather has forced NAM to remain closed today, as reported elsewhere:

"The adverse weather has once again beaten us and the decision has been taken to close the museum today - sorry for any inconvenience this may cause!

It is indeed and the team doing the repainting would be further on if it hadn't been quite so cold - last week I didn't get the chance to get over to Hangar 2 for a proper look, but I understand that all of the etch-primed areas have now been 're-splintered'! The gallery could do with another update! http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Viggen_Valet

Still lots of other things underway especially around the Puma & Chinook fuselage; plus the new café & toilet facility is due for delivery next week!!

This weekend NAM is once again participating in the BBC Big Day Out campaign, which provides free admission many tourist attractions in Nottinghamshire, you can find further information in this BBC PDF file (link opens a BBC PDF file) N.B. you’ll need the print-out if you want to gain the free admission offer at NAM.

On Sunday NAM will also have several aircraft / cockpits open – small donation is requested to access each one; all proceeds go towards aircraft restoration costs; – open cockpit details in here!

I purchased my copy of the 26th edition of Wrecks & Relics yesterday from the Newark Air Museum Shop and was pleased to see I even managed to beat the deadline and get Puma & Chinook arrivals pictures included.

Info about the NAM Shop can be found in here. If you plan to visit to purchase a copy why not pick up a copy of the new RAF Balderton book as well?

One of my aims for today is to get the booking forms circulated for the Summer Aeroboot and information uploaded to the NAM website – anyone receiving the information is encouraged to read the associated text concerning the new GDPR regulations, as Nam will need you to make a positive input to remain on the mailing lists in future!
