Who knew? http://www.starwars.com/news/from-wo...ars-the-meteor
I wonder what else they used from British scrapyards - the chap interviewed said "I went around Britain buying up scrap aircraft, jet engines — all sorts of stuff. Out of that we did most of the set dressing.”

It's all good. Probably.

Some Empire Storm Troopers are armed with a MG 42...
Standard StormTrooper blaster was based on a Stirling SMG..

One of my last trips to Hanningfield Metals revealed a couple of (B-52?) seat and a smashed F-86L canopy: both supposedly came from a container-load of mixed random aircraft parts gathered from around the Davis Monthan scrapyards and brought over for one of the Star wars films. The Manston History Museum had (has?) one of the other Hanningfield F-86L canopies, but fortunately not smashed.
Lots of bits of the landspeeder come from TR1985 radios
The young boy in the first Star Wars film (I believe who grows up to be Darth Vader...I'm not an expert on the newer films) wears BoB-era RAF-style goggles when he races his hover-racer.
I believe they're made by Halcyon, I have a pair for my roadster.
There are two sides to every story. The truth is usually somewhere between the two.
The Stromtrooper's Heavy Blaster rifle was heavily based on a Rheinmetall-Borsig MG 15.
Warning. Geek alert!
Han Solo's pistol is a Mauser.
Princess Leia's pistol is a Luger.
The scene where Stormtroopers try to blast the Falcon in the Spaceport at Moss Eisley,
if you look closely you can see a road work towed compressor.
Leia hides from Troopers behind a set made of grey plumbers tubing.
The large spaceship during the opening scene of ANH. If you look at it's rear you can see the doors from a model kit APC.
R2D2's eye is actually the directional air vent from a 70's airliner.
The list is endless...
BTW wasn't there a helicopter or aircraft in the cargo bay of the Nostromo in Alien?
One also carries what appears to be a Lewis Gun.
One of the Peter Cushing Dr Who films has Vickers Vimy (replica?) engine cowlings as set dressing.
One of the spaceships on Star Wars has a Vickers Viscount steering yoke
You mean they are not real spaceships ?
The crew entry ladders for the fighters were/are F-4 Phantom rear cockpit entry steps.
Presumably there was a yard, or yards, full of them at one time.
Anon.
Millennium Falcon had two..Mounted back to front...Also had a Martin Baker ejection seat in it..One of the spaceships on Star Wars has a Vickers Viscount steering yoke
Some guys are building a full size Spaceship....

The Millenium falcon was designed on a B29 cockpit.
The lightsaber emitter on the Obi Wan saber is the ballance pipe from the Derwent engine, then next in line (working your way from front to back) its the WW1 British rifle grenade, then its a flash clamp from a graflex camera flash with a part of an old calculator attached (the clear bubbles), then its an ASM2 booster from a 303 MKII Browning machine gun, then its an old Armitage Shanks handwheel off a water tap.
I used to collect these items and still have them.

Christ, virgins of the world unite. You lot need to get out more.
The Millennium Falcon is in the original Blade Runner as a building!

The lights in the bar where they recruit Hans Solo are combustion chambers.

Hmmm, you could say that about any hobby really. Making something accurate out of rare hard to find parts is more of an art than geeky. I find the people that stereotype others like that are just sheep, saying something that someone else has said and don't have much imagination or mind of their own.
Some of the people i know in that hobby are far from geeks. A few i know are soldiers and police officers infact. Oh and i have three Sons myself, the first one was born when i was 19 years old.

I firmly believe that if someone can find some interest in a subject then it has demonstrable value, no matter how bizarre, off beat or baffling I may find that interest.

Most scifi film/ TV series has a sonobuoy container or two in it.
I know/knew plenty of people in the armed forces who are/were mega-nerds/geeks and had children too. The point is to not take it as a negative term, or pigeon hole people who might fit into the category. Some of the people i know in that hobby are far from geeks. A few i know are soldiers and police officers infact. Oh and i have three Sons myself, the first one was born when i was 19 years old.
And maintain a good sense of not taking things too seriously. Apart from good grammar. Or at least thats what i should of said (the last bit was irony by the way - no prizes for anyone who spots at least three grammatical errors).
Princess Leia's blaster is not a Luger. It is a Russian Margolin MTS .22 calibre target pistol.
Earlier mention of Hanningfields, they cleared a lot of the set from the Phantom Menace, I saw the seats there in the opening sequence on the flight deck of the space ship (Radiant 7) I think, those were B52 sets, the top part cut off and lots of random stuff on the back, in the film they look good, in the flesh they looked crappy, I did buy one of the unused seats, I think they were the downwards firing ones, don't have it any more, they were rough. I still have some stuff that I retrieved, Battle Droid bits, piece of set, which have been covetously fondled by the odd Star Wars nerd over the years
I retrieved two Tornado control columns from a heavy crudely made seat, one each side, the label said Troy Campers seat, no idea if it was used, I couldn't be bothered to watch the film again as I found it like the new ones just boring, will try and remember what else I saw, there was more but my memory can be a bit random unsurprisingly. I remember a big skip of unused materials which just looked like garbage, lawn mower casings, all sorts but it's clever what they do with it
Officially now a pensioner
Also these

This one looks a bit crappy, I have a couple of better ones. It is a nukes controller from the Tornado GR1(not Buccaneer) with the front panel put on backwards and painted silver. You can see the two terminals for the panel light.
An expert will be along in a minute with the exact film reference.
Yes, I have seen a LOT of aircraft parts in Sci-fi movies.
And even a few non-sci-fi
(and yes, I know about the MG-15 in SW #4)
I don't - where is it?
Edit - that was a mis-read. I read 'MiG-15'..

Never new that about the Margolin. I had one. It's called a Vostok over here![]()
