Battle of Britain film Cine Film

    Hello,

I am converting some old Cine film for a friend of mine and besides the usual holiday sequences, is a few minutes of what appears to be filmed during the making of the BoB film. None of this has been seen outside the owner's family before. I am allowed to take screenshots but not to make copies of the films themselves. Hope that someone finds these photos of interest.

Fantastic images, especially the behind the scenes shots. Is there no way the owner can be convinced to share the footage?

Afraid not, as clips contain family parts too. Might see if can splice the aviation parts together and ask again, but at this present time, it's just the pictures as seen here. Am lucky that am able to do that. Some cracking films. Thought was going to be just buckets and spades and then was presented with Buchons and Spitfires. Makes interesting viewing.

Let's hope so. Is the PR Spit PS915?

I don't see a PR Spitfire. I see a Spitfire in camouflage that looks blue in the photo. Apparently in Spain... so MH415?

I think most of the 'bluing' is due to the age of the film, but then perhaps not!

    MH415 / G-AVDJ concurred.

Thanks for sharing. I think it's great when new images and footage turn up from a movie as seminal as "Battle Of Britain".

Great stuff Martin. Love the Buchon in their genuine blue SpAF colours. So sad to see the Proctuka as several Proctors were sacrificed for nothing since they eventually used footage of Ju87 models.

Always very exciting to see new images from behind the scenes. These private collection images always have something special and different from the normal ones that get published. Many thanks for letting us see them.

Yet more fascinating images, thanks for taking the time to share these with us. My first clear view of the dummy set up, and a fascinating rear view of the psychedelic monster.

Tried a little clean-up here. This may well be my 'local', Bovingdon, as certainly the unit was there for some time in 1968.

The cameraman has been on at least three BoB film locations , maybe on more than one occasion, so is more than a casual gawper.

I wonder if he had some more formal connection with the filming. Great to see it, anyway.

I do believe that is Bovington. Here are a few more, hopefully from the same location. And yes, the cameraman had something to do with the film as was one of the Spitfire pilots.

The film as not shown before may be valuable, as the stills may also be. I would have put a copyright across them.

    Hi Martin,

Thank you for showing the film at Bodmin on Saturday. Not just the BoB stuff, I rather liked the Jet Wot and HAeC stuff too! G-AIDN looked much better in civvy colours.

The landing Spitfires, Heinkel and Buchons are all at Duxford. See you have found my Flickr albums!

    Martin

Suppose should have put a copyright mark on each one, but least we will know where we saw them the first time. Will look into doing that with future screenshots.

That is Jeff Hawke ( seated) , taking a break from flying the B25 cameraship.

At a guess, I would say Duxford, given the painting of the buildings and blast tape on the windows. Possibly North Weald, but not Bovingdon I think, as that did not feature in ground shots, apart from the smoking Heinkel descending over a huge, painted London skyline billboard.

All but one (the dummy pilot on the wing is at Bovingdon), the rest are taken at Duxford. When the camera pans around, its weird not to see the M11....

Spitfire CD-H is P7350. Not sure which of the two Mk.XIXs is in the other shot.

Brilliant footage/pictures. The dummy pilot on the wing of the Buchon must have been left on the films cutting room floor because i don`t recall any scene in the film where a Buchon pilot is seen baling out.
