    Huey restoration

    Friend flew this one in Vietnam. It made noise this afternoon. First pic is Qui Nhon in '70, 2nd pic is today.

    I think you mean deja Huey.

    Considering it first flew in 1955 and its descendants are still flying in combat roles, it's got to be one of the greatest aircraft ever, fixed or rotary wing.

    That's rather wonderful, love the recreated original photo! I was lucky enough to see a display by the UK-based machine a couple of years back and was immensely impressed with it.
    Armchair enthusiast, but also a fan of sofas and recliners.

    Not still in production though, unlike the Hercules...;o)

    well the Hercules in production today isn't really like the ones from the Vietnam era. And so is it with the UH-1 build today as the UH-1Y

    The original Crew Chief died in May 2014 (AO got him), but he knew his bird was going to be restored to how it was when he crewed it. This morning they put his name on the side.

    As previously reported, The UH-1Y us still being produced and I believe the civil 412 is as well. I'm sure there are arguments on both sides as to whether it's the "same" aircraft, but the Defense Department seems to think so...since it's still called an H-1.

    Found another one.
    Been tracking down surviving birds from the 129th for a while. One that has proved to be a bit elusive was the one that was supposed to be closest to where I live, as in about 20 miles away.
    Last month me & a friend from the 129th did a bit of poking about on the way back from Mojave. Spotted one through a fence & screeched to a halt to investigate. Couldn't get close enough to see any #'s on it, but the location & damage I could see matched the last report on the bird back in 2000.
    Yesterday I did another drive by, place still deserted.
    Today I pull it up on Zillow to get the actual street address. The map feature listed a company name.
    I look up the company & it gives me the name of the owner. I look him up & it gives me an address about 4 miles from me.
    I drive over there to find another yard, but this one looks like it's owned by a collector of "stuff I can't live without", All sorts of vintage tractors, trailers, dozers etc.
    No one there. I go the tow yard next door & ask if they know when the guy might be around.
    They gave me his phone #. Called the guy up & he said he should be out there "some day next week". Got to call him again on Saturday.

    This is what I saw through the fence as we went past at about 60mph last month...
