Additional nations could join with Italy for new attack helicopter

speaking at a Dubai air show event, Leonardo's group chief commercial officer Lorenzo Mariani said the helicopter is "not only for Italy".

"It is a basis for collaboration – we believe that other nations can join this project," says Mariani, confirming the AW249 designation.

Lockheed's CH-53K helicopter to make global debut at Berlin air show: sources

The U.S. Marine Corps expect to declare the CH-53K ready for combat use in 2019. They have said the average cost of the huge aircraft will be around $88 million a copy. The cost could drop somewhat if Germany, Israel and Japan also buy the planes.

Video: H225M CHC Helicopter Service Crash report & Mechanical analysis

    Some are not convinced:
However, Bradshaw [CEO of ERA*] is not convinced by this, arguing that Airbus Helicopters has only come up with a means of detecting the problem once it has occurred, rather than fixing the underlying defect.

"It remains the case that there is an absence of robust and empirical data sets that could be used to inform a reliable safety case that would define, with any specificity, things like the propagation rate once the underlying issue occurs, or the successful identification rate once the underlying issue has developed," he says.

*That just valued its H225 at 4m$ each

Bell considers autonomous flight of V-280 tiltrotor

the application of fly-by-wire controls on the Valor and the development of its flight-control laws make a transition to autonomous flight relatively straightforward.

"While it's not trivial, it is less significant than having to do everything from scratch," [Tobin, Bell vice president of Mil business] says. "That gives us a leg up."

    Some are not convinced:
Era is still pursuing Airbus Helicopters through the courts, arguing that it was sold helicopters with a known safety defect, a position the manufacturer vehemently disputes.
Everything is said. Offshore oil market is in pretty bad shape and trying to make money...
