Very interesting. There is (less advanced), also some interestin work at Airbus for "interflaps"membrane.

    More on Magma:
    https://www.flightglobal.com/news/ar...-advan-444848/

Obviously eliminating flaps while preserving maneuverability with Fluidic thrust vectoring will allow for lower RCS. My one nit to pick, the advances with FTV should allow the designers to do away with the tails and allow tail-less supersonic flight. BAE Taranis allegedly achieved supersonic flight (some ambiguity on that). If the goal is to use FTV to achieve all aspect LO, retaining the tails on the MAGMA seems like a retrograde step.

The gains from drag and weight from losing the tails will be huge as well. Vertical stabilizers have to be build exceptionally strong (especially in a twin tail aircraft), losing them and the structural strengthening needed to support them will reduce an aircraft's take-off weight by 6%-7% according to NASA.

I'm sure I read that the tails were coming off for the second phase of tests.

I'm still yet to see any evidence from BAE that Taranis is supersonic- as much as that would be great.

Nobody to link Magma tech with the Raider? I mean the silhouette displayed have engines but no nozzles

Leonardo to head EU research program on unmanned naval systems

The EU fund, launched in 2016 to build the union’s military capabilities, foresees a pooled €5 billion (U.S. $6 billion) procurement budget.

Prior to procurement, the fund also covers a €90 million research phase called the Preparatory Action on Defence Research and a €500 million annual budget for prototypes and demonstrators.

The work awarded to an industrial team led by Leonardo — which is worth around €35 million, an Italian industrial source said — is part of the first phase, and will be contracted in coming weeks, the firm said.
    [...]
The team will be supported by the defense ministries of Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Lithuania, the firm said, with additional support from the defense ministries of Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, Estonia and the Netherlands.

European partner firms include Indra, Safran, Saab, MBDA, PGZ/CTM, Hensoldt, Intracom Defense Electronics, Fincantieri and QinetiQ, as well as research centers including Fraunhofer, TNO, CMRE (of NATO) and IAI.

Airbus, which led the losing team in the tender to run the program, announced Thursday it was teaming with Naval Group to launch a technology study for a helicopter drone for the French Navy’s heavily armed ships.

I did wonder, what with the meeting going on.

This is all there was about FCAS I the official communiqué:

"Following the Future Combat Air System Development Phase-0, we will continue our work on assessing the emerging conclusions before decisions are taken on future phases. We will also pursue opportunities for Combat Air cooperation, and our capability analysis of the Future Combat Air Environment including how manned and unmanned systems might operate together. "

It is slightly early for development phase to have concluded anyway, and they might now design the UCAV to be compatible with the future fighter that is emerging perhaps?

Aviation Week see trouble for FCAS:

    http://aviationweek.com/defense/futu...onstrator-hazy

I would say that the project is recruiting staff at the moment, which would suggest someone in the MOD thinks it is going somewhere....

First batch of ten Mohajer-6 UCAVs were delivered #IRGC-Ground Force by #Iran|ian Ministry of Defense during a ceremony in #Tehran today. For now total ten are manufactured in #IAMI with ability to airdrop Qaem TV & IR-Guided bombs. #IRGC Navy is the second customer of the UCAV.

I guess in Iran, UCAV is in the eye of the beholder.

Is the weapons pylon made out of Meccano ?

Yeah suspect. But looking attentively there was not enoughon this picture to definitively class it as fake.
