    12 August 2014:
    From fiscal year 2019, two 777-300ER will replace two 747-400 as the Japanese royalty and prime minister's aircraft.
    They probably will be again based at Chitose AB, Hokkaidou.

    747 has two floors.
    777 has one floor, is narrower, but consumes up to 30% less fuel.
    777 range about 14,000 km, is about 1,000 km farther.

    Blue Impulse, JASDF.
    Ashiya AB, Fukuoka Prefecture.

    Cancelled demo flight, during air show with 40,000 audience.

    Capsized rubber boat appeared on sea near air base.
    Fire Department, JCG, and Prefecture Police boats, divers, and helicopters searched for rubber boat occupant(s).

    Air base decided SAR had priority, and cancelled demo flight in afternoon.

    The truth was in the morning, a man in his 70s, was fishing on the rubber boat.
    10:30, it capsized, and he fell into the sea.
    He wore life vest, and another fisher on another boat rescued him.
    He went home by motorcycle.

    Before noon, people saw and reported the empty rubber boat.

    All this discussion about which DMU. I want to know why they don't put together a modernized F-2A order redesigned for the new engine. You know, the engine that's more powerful than F110. It needs to get behind the development with a high-low mix to make it worthwhile. They aren't just facing J-20 in the future, the J-10 and J-11 will be in theater for decades to come.

    He was my North, my South, my East and West,
    My working week and my Sunday rest,
    My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
    I thought that love would last forever; I was wrong.

    The stars are not wanted now; put out every one:
    Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
    Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:
    For nothing now can ever come to any good.

    It was one of those amazing aspects of Japanese defence procurement that they well develop a totally unique pod that is only used by their own forces.

    Airbus pulls out of Japan military tanker aircraft deal

    2015/09/08

    Airbus said on Tuesday its defence division would not bid for a Japanese air-to-air refueling tanker aircraft deal estimated to be worth over a billion dollars because the terms of the tender favoured its U.S. rival Boeing Co.

    Wellll . . . since Japan already has four KC-767s, buying more is probably the best choice unless Airbus can offer a massive advantage in some important aspect of performance. I suspect that the selection has already been unofficially made, & the RFP to Airbus is more to do with making it look like a competition, & maybe try to get better terms from the USA, than there being any serious consideration of buying A330.
