This is the first time I hear anyone claim that 2D-nozzles are optimized for supersonic performance. And I have serious doubts this is true. For me, the main reason to use 2D nozzles is low RCS as they have negative impact on engine thrust and aircraft's performance, in general.

So F-35 use a should-be cheap alternative jet engine that is actually hopeless at super-cruise and super-sonic performance, due to its very high by-pass ratio.
Actually some technology from the F-135 is being planned to be retrofitted to the F-119...So much for...Second, its not HOPELESS at supercruise because it is cheap and crap..it was not designed to be a supercruising engine...Had that been a requirment they could have just simply used the existing F-119 and not modify it...The F-135 is a sollution for the JSF which did not have Supercruise as a requirment, but wanted good range, strike from a single engined bird..

As far as 2d TVC, that was not a requirment either....

Clearly, the F-35 with the P & W F135 wasn't designed to operate at Super Cruise like the F-22. (i.e. Mach 1.5+) Yet, we know the F-35 has at least some capability to do so. One source claims Mach 1.2 for ~150 miles??? While other sources say in can maintain such speeds for longer periods. Nonetheless, the F-35 was designed to excel at Transonic Speeds where most aerial combat happens.

    Here are the two statements
    Can almost supercruise

The F-35 can't supercruise like the F-22 Raptor, but the test pilots have found that once they break the sound barrier,
supersonic speeds are easy to sustain.
"What we can do in our airplane is get above the Mach with afterburner,
and once you get it going ... you can definitely pull the throttle back quite a bit and still maintain supersonic,
so technically you're pretty much at very, very min[imum] afterburner while you're cruising,"
Griffiths said. "So it really does have very good acceleration capabilities up in the air."
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not supercruise in a technical sense

The F-35, while not technically a "supercruising" aircraft,
can maintain Mach 1.2 for a dash of 150 miles without using fuel-gulping afterburners.

    "Japan's Air-to-Air Upgrade

Japan already has bought Raytheon AIM-120 Amraams, so why is it spending ¥36 billion ($468 million) to upgrade about 60 F-2 fighters with the Mitsubishi Electric Corp. AAM-4B missile?"
Looks pretty much like Meteor, but with an AESA seeker.

Most of the F-35 users will happily take that technology and increased thrust (around 5% in the short - med term) and use it get range, as all 3 varients fall short when compared to the original requirment..>I do not know how it would effect the transonic acceleration, but i doubt that it would still be stellar even with increased thrust from the engines...

You can bet that Japan will want both missiles to be intergraded into JASDF F-35A's.

Really, F-35 Customers are going to have a vast selection of weapons to choose from....:diablo:

    6 April 2013:
    Blue Impulse Junior.
JASDF, based at Matsushima AB, Miyagi Prefecture.

At a "Blue Impulse welcome back" event at Higashi Matsushima City, Miyagi Prefecture, attended by about 6,000 people, a demo flight by the real Blue Impulse was cancelled because of bad weather.
Instead, three of the seven Blue Impulse Junior... vehicles appeared for a PR photo opp.
However, after the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami, the former members of the Blue Impulse Junior team have been dispersed to other bases all over the country.
Fans hope the team will resurrect for the air show event in summer.

On or about 1 April 2013:
    T-33A.
    81-5358. #358.
JASDF, possibly formerly based at Tsuiki AB, Fukuoka Prefecture.

A JASDF retired T-33 is assembled and displayed at the "products building", called "Metase no Mori", at Chikujou Town, Fukuoka Prefecture.
(I guess a "products building" is a hall or shop that sells locally produced food.)

Until 1992, T-33 trainers were active at Tsuiki AB.
Back in summer 2012, the town learnt this aircraft kept in the prefecture, would be scrapped, and requested to display it.

The "products building" is west of Tsuiki AB, which is far east of Fukuoka City.

JASDF, based at Komatsu AB, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Two ground crew: one in his 10s, and one in his 20s.
They used a compressor normally used to pump up tires, to pump air into each other's anus.
The one in his 10s, had abdomen pain, and sent to hospital.
After the accident, both were disciplined.

    Former JGSDF.

A company in Toyama Prefecture recently bought 12 JGSDF retired OH-6D.
The company did not comply with the agreement, and did not disassemble or scrap the helicopters, before it sold them to companies in Australia, New Zealand, others.
IFF, radio, and weapons were removed from the helicopters, so the sales did not break the laws against exporting weapons.
