  • The basic answer is no. That's partly what I was suggesting in my post #10, our aircraft factories were already running at pretty much maximum capacity producing "warplanes" for want of a better description..

My immediate suggestion is look at Pprune. They did a software update in June to similar outrage from many users. It's not the same as previously but it does now resemble the old site.

The main points are, reduce the acres of wasted white space, and reduce the intensity of the white too,...

At the moment, it's certainly less bad.
    Still looks terrible though.

They're Gyron Juniors - 45% scaled and an entirely different beast, although still not particularly good. That's probably not entirely fair, they weren't really powerful enough for the Buccaneer.

The Gyron was a monster, the most powerful engine in the world by some margin in the early...

I guess an Avon. AFAIK there are only 2 Gyrons left - out of not many to start with - one with the Science Museum and one at the DH Museum.

  • As an aside to the shortage or not of aircraft designers, which I agree seems unlikely, I've either read or seen a programme recently that said we were desperately short of draughtsmen.during the war.
Regarding the agreement which I've also seen debunked, I wonder if another reason was priorities....

    Almost certainly not...
I haven't had one since late August but to be fair, I guess that's fairly low on the priority list given the other more major problems.

That post worked much, much quicker than others have recently.

    Edit, again - virtually instant!

But, it could have been useful as an engine test aircraft. With the spars running between the engines, there was nothing in the way so literally anything could be made to fit.
As it turned out, AFAIK, it was only used for the Gyron, which probably couldn't have been fitted to any other airframe...

Quicker, no. I'll agree just about to less slow.
It's like the days of a 28.8 or 56k modem - which considering I've got a 78Mb fibre connection is a bit of a throwback.

    I don't know if it's unique - I suspect it might be - but it's certainly unusual.

Most of the time it's not a problem and could even be considered a good thing as things have developed over hundreds of years but, unfortunately - or fortunately depending on the circumstances - it means there...

I think the usual term is: We don't have a written constitution.

What has never been mentioned in this thread, as far as I've seen although I stopped actively following it some time ago, was alluded to by St John a couple of posts back.
We didn't vote 'Join' in 1975, we voted Remain - in a common market, as that was what we were told Ted Heath had signed us...

I hope they either get rid of the wasted white space or massively reduce the number of stickies. Currently they take up nearly half the page.
I was getting notifications until late August. Until this thread, partly due to the forum being down and going on holiday I hadn't posted since so I assume...

Pprune went through the same or similar update a few months ago and after much vociferous complaining it now looks pretty close to the previous version. Certainly the vast acreage of wasted white space has been substantially reduced and the contrast increased with a darker blue. There are nearly twice...

It always amazes me to think that after starting with just a nose section, Tony Agar managed to find all the rest of the parts to construct a complete aircraft.

It also staggers me to realise that I went to the initial roll-out at Elvington on - I think - the 50th anniversary of the fighter...
