-Thanks. No, you could build it open or closed. I quite often build mine with them open if given the option.
There are a few non-standard bits on the model - the instrument panel came from a Revell Spitfire VB, and the pilot is from a Matchbox Spit IX/XVI. The rest is per the kit.
