Found something interesting today: AV-MF badges for Su-33 pilots flying from carriers. There are 3 different ones, one for the Kuznetsov, one for the still incomplete Varyag, and one for the Kiev. Clearly depicted on all 3 is a Kuznetsov-class carrier, so what is the Kiev? Is it an unknown name-change for the Ulyanovsk, the 3rd ship that was scrapped? Or was the Kiev to be refitted in the same manner as the Admiral Gorshkov for the Indian Navy? Comments?

Admiral Gorshkov is a Kiev class A/c capable heavy cruiser soon to be converted for the Indian navy.I will be armed with the Yakhonkt missile.Kiev itself was scrapped,I think.

RE: Kiev/Su-33?

Yes, but the question still stands...why is there an AV-MF pilot's badge featuring a Kuznetsov-class carrier with the name Kiev?

RE: Kiev/Su-33?

Probably to create confusion, and it has apparently succeeded :-)
