Any info, pics or opinion about the Russo-Chinese war games going on at the moment?

Western media seems pretty convinced that this is a signal to the US and its hemogony of world politics ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/4162054.stm )- what do you guys think?

Some pics would be much appreciated if anyone can dig some up somewhere... I'm too lazy.

Western Media is hyperventalating. lol. If russia goes into excercise its a threat? but when the western hemisphere does the same its ok?

The term "western media" ignores the huge differences between media in western countries, especially the right-leaning and left-leaning media. I have watched news from USA, Canada, and Britain and they are significantly different from each other (with Canadian and British media being more similar to each other than to American media). For example, in coverage of the Israeli withdrawal, the BBC or CBC would use terms such as "occupiers" to describe the Israelis while Fox News or CNN would use terms such as "settlers". American news are more likely to call terrorists terrorists while BBC or CBC would call them by more PC terms.

It is just a military exercise, that's all.
I personaly don't see it as being any signal as a threat or something.
But, yes if someone has more pictures or info, it would be nice.

I'm a bit mixed on how calling a terrorist a terrorist is not considered PC.

Is there a better way to describe them?

Freedom Fighters perhaps....lol....give me a break.

It involves 10000 active troops from both China and russia.
some ships from the pacific fleet
1 sovernmenny
1 Udaloy
1 Amphib landing ship
some Su27SM
2 A-50 awacs
Tu-95
Tu-22

Not quite sure what the chinese are sending but media have been hinting that Chinese are familiar with most equipement and that it would involve similar equipement on both sides. So I guess the chinese would sent out their counterparts for this exercise

I was watching the news yesterday and I think some people just taking this exercise between China and Russia too seriously, just because one Communist country and one ex.Communist country conduct a military exercise dosen't mean its a threat. Anyway, I saw some Russian ships firing rockets and fancy maneuvre by air force jets, it was impressice.

Are the Russians wearing Kevlar/Glass hybrid helmets?

New helmets, but otherwise old weapons.

I guess they are using up some old ammo. Those ATGMs are AT-5s and the RPGs are RPG-7Ds. It is probably near its use by date and when they have used it up they can have some newer stock...

The most modern firearm visible is the SVDS. No Pecheneg, no late model RPG... No Kornet or Metis-M ATGM...

From RIA Novosti:

http://en.rian.ru/russia/20050820/41194830.html

BEIJING, August 20 (RIA Novosti, Alexei Yefimov) - The second stage of the Peace Mission-2005 Russian-Chinese maneuvers has started in China Saturday. The Russian and Chinese troops will practice the deployment of personnel, military hardware and weapons on the Shandong Peninsula and in the Yellow Sea.

Russian warships arrived at the port of Qingdao on August 9.

The maneuvers involve 8,000 Chinese and 2,000 Russian military personnel.

Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Yury Baluyevsky said Thursday that all kinds of Russian military units, including marine and airborne companies, were taking part in the maneuvers.

"Our maneuvers do not threaten any country," he said. "This is mentioned in the memorandum and we stick to this principle."

The first stage of the exercises began August 18 in Vladivostok, which hosted military-political consultations of chiefs of the Russian and Chinese general staffs.

The Russians seem to be awfully active these days in terms of excercises and other military activity; MAKS2005, cruise-missile tests, Atlantic naval excercises, Russo-Chinese excercises etc etc.

http://en.rian.ru/russia/20050822/41206602.html

SOCHI, August 22 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin said the money spent on Armed Forces war games was justified. "The number of war games conducted in the army, the fleet, and aviation" is impressive, the Russian president told the crews of two strategic bombers, a refueling aircraft, and the commander of the Yakaterinburg submarine that took part in the recent long-range aviation training of the Air Force and the Northern Fleet.

Putin said large-scale exercises with the air force, navy, and land-based troops were being conducted in the Far East along with exercises in southern and northern Russia.

"The training is very intensive, but it is all worth the money," he said. "The country needs it."

The president also spoke about the current joint exercises of the Northern and Baltic Fleets, adding that exercises of this kind and scale had not been held in Russia for more than 20 years.

Is it just me, or do the treads on those IFVs seem really narrow? Is there a reason for that?
