    Well, I checked it out myself. Indeed, the satellite imagery is available on TerraServer and is timestamped April 18th, so earlier than Putin's visit.



    Do note that there are two smaller drones parked to the left of the Okhotnik too. Orion is the top one, I guess, going by the size and the seemingly grey color. The white one closest to Okhotnik is too small to be Altius though.

        As the press office said, RTI Group is completing R&D work in 2018 on creating a mockup of the X-band radio-photonic radar. Following its results, specialists "will determine a principal scheme of building the radio-photonic locator," which will make it possible "in several years to build prototypes of super-light and small-size radars for unmanned aerial vehicles."


        I am assuming the Okhotnic-B is going to have a LTCC based radar and since its considered a heavy drone its going to have a range of 200kms.
        I think that the Okhotnik-B is going to be a very slow process. They stated 3-5 years mass production of FICs will begin back in their latest magazine and since they said several years back in this 2018 tass report I am assuming the drone can have a ROFAR replacement by 2025 as a prototype being tested. So do you have an agreement that the radar being tested right now is LTCC based or is this the only lead we have?


        I thought the fall of western civilization was a tragedy, now I realize it's a comedy.

          I would lie if I say that I am knowledgeable enough to have an opinion on that, but I will check that source you posted and humbly give my conclusions if any, it looks definitely rich in information.

          Having said that, the reference to a UAV in the Pazhotron article does not necessarily mean Okhotnik, since Sukhoi is working with Tikhomirov for the radar of he Su-57 and it would only make sense to continue that in the S-70.

          The TASS link related to ROFAR points out nevertheless to its early stage of development: they still need to actually build the thing (a demonstrator) itself, including all the elements, and only then will they start understanding how a real, serial device should work. This represents a very early phase as far as I can see.

            Russia to unveil strike drone at Army-2019 defense exhibition

            The drones mockup model was created in 2014

            MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. Russia will demonstrate its most advanced Okhotnik (Hunter) heavy strike drone for the first time at the Army-2019 defense exhibition, the Defense Ministrys press office reported on Monday.
            The drone will be on display on the open site of the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Center, the statement says.

            "The exposition of the most advanced and promising items of armament, military and special hardware on the open site of the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Center has been increased twofold. The exposition will feature the Okhotnik UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle]," the ministry said.
            As two sources in the aircraft-building industry told TASS earlier, the Russian-made Okhotnik heavy attack drone based on the stealth technology took to the skies for the first time in early spring after performing the so-called jumps over the runway for several weeks. The drone would speed up along the runway, climb several meters and then immediately make a landing, stopping at the end of the strip. The drone performed all the operations autonomously.
            Although the drone would take off during the trials, these tests were not full-fledged flights and only preceded them, the sources noted.
            A contract on developing the Okhotnik heavy strike drone was signed in 2011 between the Sukhoi Aircraft Company and Russias Defense Ministry. The drones mockup model was created in 2014.

              That's just a month away, so. But open display so soon after all this secrecy and stuff? Not even the T-50 which has been around for 9 years has been shown as a static display yet, not even the first rather featureless ones, I mean.

              Could it be that they're just talking about the old mockup?

                  I am also surprised that they are going to display it so early, and eager to know what version will we see: the old one that we knew based on pictures, the airframe seen early this year or even a different one? Last satellite pictures showed different paint job but also left me with the doubt of whether the nozzle was the round or the recessed one. Hopefully we get a real model and not a mock-up!

                  BTW, good news about the Il-112V and composite industry:

                  "At the meeting, the Chairman of the Council on priority area of the Strategy of scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation Igor kalyaeva and MSU rector Viktor Sadovnichy, it was decided that MSU will initiate an integrated scientific-technological program "New composite materials: design technology and production." I am the co-chair of the interagency working group in this area. We form teams of experts from tech companies, and different branches of science.                     hmmm an estimated 200km range for radar(although not the okhotnik-B they referenced a heavy drone) and the 50-100% increase in detection range next to an SU-57 source. I think this drone differs a little bit from the X-47B and Phantom Ray and that is having an air to air combat role than just only an air to ground combat role. Is this possibility correct? Or I just have to shut up on this board and wait for a month? Probably the last question I will have discussing this drone until a month later

                      My two cents:

                      I don't know what roles the VKS will devise for the Okhotnik, but looking at it the strike-optimized layout is immediately apparent and not different IMO to other UCAVs we have seen:

                      > Intake at the top of the fuselage is optimized to avoid detection from below (SAMs), not from other fighters
                      > At the same time, that same air intake position precludes the capacity to execute high AoA manoeuvres, it is not a coincidence that intakes in fighters (even in stealth ones) are at the sides or below the fuselage and not above.
                      > Due to unavoidable aerodynamic limitations, the plane will probably have high endurance but little speed or agility.

                      So it is not the substitute of a fighter. But it does not mean it cannot carry some AAMs and support the Su-57 or defend itself in case of need, it should not be that difficult to place two small WBs for MRAAMs at the sides of the main bays for self defence. And specifically carrying LRAAMs as main weapons and penetrating the enemy defences low level to attack AWACS, ISR planes etc. it could actually be pretty useful. In fact, if you look at the size of the weapons placed at the side of the Okhotnik in the satellite view, one of the missiles is like 6 m long. That would mean a very long ranged and powerful A2G weapon, but also potentially an equally powerful LRAAM. With OTH in operation (or targetting passively in case of enemy AWACS), I understand you could create missiles with ranges in excess of 500 km, maybe derived from the ones used in S-400/500, and send all those critical supporting assets far away from the battlefield.

                      So rather a "flying SAM battery" than a fighter if you ask me xD

                        Several news today about the Ka-52... apparently 30 additional are going to be delivered until 2022 and from that year, 114 units of a modernized Ka-52M will be sourced:

                        Russias Aerospace Force will get additional 30 Kamov Ka-52 Alligator combat helicopters by 2022, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said on Tuesday.

                        The Russian defense official made this statement as he visited the Progress Aviation Enterprise, the producer of Ka-52 gunships.
                        "Today the factory is fulfilling a long-term contract for the delivery of Ka-52 reconnaissance and attack helicopters. By 2022, we expect to get additional 30 helicopters, including eight rotorcraft by the end of this year," the deputy defense minister said.

                        Russias upgraded Ka-52 helicopter to get more capabilities to hit air and ground targets The upgraded version of the Ka-52 attack helicopter would be created by 2022.

                        MOSCOW, May 28. /TASS/. The upgraded Ka-52M Alligator combat helicopter will get more capabilities for using weapons against targets in the air and on the ground, the press office of Russian Helicopters rotorcraft maker said in a press release circulated on Tuesday.
                        "Work is underway to further increase the range of detecting and identifying targets and, correspondingly, to boost the capabilities of employing weapons against both ground and air targets," the press office quoted Russian Helicopters CEO Andrei Boginsky as saying in a comment on improvements in the upgraded version.
                        On the instruction from Russias defense minister, work has been carried out to modernize electro-optical systems for the Ka-52M helicopter and it has already proven its worth, Boginsky said.
                        "Also, in cooperation with other enterprises, we are working on the issue of increasing the helicopters armored protection and renewing its power supply system. The second task is to standardize air-launched weapons with our other helicopters of the Mi family," the chief executive said.
                        Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said earlier on Tuesday that Russias top brass planned to sign a contract in 2020 on purchasing 114 upgraded Ka-52M attack helicopters, The Russian defense official made this statement as he visited the Progress Aviation Enterprise in the Primorye Region, the producer of Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters.
                        "We expect to sign a new contract already next year on 114 modernized Ka-52M helicopters," the deputy defense minister said.
                        As the defense official specified, the upgraded version of the Ka-52 attack helicopter, the Ka-52M, would be created by 2022. The experimental design work on the upgraded helicopter will take into account Russias combat experience in Syria, he added.
                        The Ka-52M will get new power supply and target acquisition systems. Also, following the requirements of Russias Defense Ministry, the helicopters protection will be enhanced considerably, Krivoruchko said.

                            KOMSOMOLSK-ON-AMUR, May 29. /TASS/. Russian Aerospace Defense Forces will get 20 Su-35S fighter jets of the 4++ generation by the end of 2020, Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko said on Wednesday during his visit to the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant.
                            "The plant is following the plan with Su-35 manufacturing, and we expect to get several aircraft even ahead of time this year. In accordance with the current contract, we expect another 20 Su-35S fighter jets this year and next year," Krivoruchko said.
                            He noted that the aircraft plant works on modernizing this type of fighter jet, including on the basis of the Syrian combat experience. In particular, next modernized versions of Su-35S will be able to use all types of air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles.

                              "As part of factory testing, the Okhotnik UAV will make its first flight at the aerodrome of the Novosibirsk Aircraft Plant in the summer, preliminarily in July or August. The flight will not last for long several dozens of minutes at the maximum," the source said.
                              The source added that the UAV will perform its flight independently, in accordance with a flight task in its onboard computer. "However, teams on the ground will intervene if necessary," the source noted.
                              TASS does not have an official confirmation of the information provided by the source.

                                        I am noticing an irritating trend that I wish they would stop using, "calling aircrafts cars" and using a measurement like, "several dozen" example the pterodactyl on a T-14 can fly as high as several dozen meters and the okhotnik will fly for several dozen minutes. Either way thank you for being a bundle of good news with these sources.

                                          The first is a known issue with automated translators, the second maybe a Russian way of expressing quantities. I can either put simply the link to the source or translate it, I think it has some added value if the users can directly read the translated contents here, even with the downsides of automated translation. But I am open to the preferences of the community, just let me know.
