Just colorized one of Paralay's sketches of the prototype:

Nota bene that the planform is probably not correct, nor the placement of all the little intakes, the APU and stuff, but oh well. I just eyed it a little bit, referencing the photos.

I got the notched intake from the secretprojects forums, some guys there said they could just barely discern a Storm Shadow-esque notch on the vehicle (as opposed to a protrusion as on Neuron for example), and upon having a closer look I'm inclined to agree. So I went with that.

I think this is a bit closer, but I messed up with the colors so there is some serious banding going on. Oh well, can't wait to see some official shots of it from above/below...

And pointless. The Eagle was not in a position suitable to engage the airliner.

The marksmanship is remarkable though. Stupid but remarkable.

Fine then, time for Russian fighters to start escorting Air Force One in international airspace without invitation, wouldn't that be considered as "harassment" in the Western media?
Sometimes you guys sound really off the mark. That plane should never have come that close to a Russian VIP flight in the first place. Provocation avoided and no Russian answer needed. But I guess is more responsible and "professional" to keep ramping tensions, what could go wrong?

It has not been confirmed that there was a VIP airliner involved. Only that this happened over the Baltic Sea.
But i find this a plausible explanation tho.
                Thanks

The Su-27's were escorting an SFS "Rossiya" Tu-204/214 VIP jetliner, it occured in 2017 to boot. So, old stuff.

That eagle was not too close. There is no converging vector to be seen (fly in parallel at about the same speed). He probably had a request or an order to investigate that airliner. This is a day to day activity in any regulated airspace. If that sounds insuportable to any, they should stick flying over homeland.
B/w If you want to see what flying too close is, I 'll point you to the now countless reckless behaviors from intercepting Chinese and Russian fighter jocks.

The Su-27 had clearly an order to guarantee the safety of the VIP flight and certainly found the Eagle being too close, then he simply showed him the way. Not saying this is not daily business in airspace control but also I am not the one raising this topic to decry a certain country. It could happen to US VIP flights too and would be taken as hostile and intimidatory activities, you can bet your last penny on that. And I am sure US fighters would proceed similarly.

Regarding those other cases you mention, it is in reality just the same thing: hide the provocation and amplify the response, lest anyone would realize where those intercepts and buzzings took place and figure out what would be the US response if the situation was inverted.

How can you determent how close the Eagle was..? You are aware that through Camera objectiv can be highly deceptive when it comes to measuring ranges.
If this was Say Lavrov, or Shougn on a VIP trip, one can understand this.

As would have been the exact case if Vica Verca.

                            http://tass.com/defense/1045122

"Russia and Saudi Arabia are holding additional consultations on a contract to supply Russias S-400 Triumf missile systems, CEO of Russias state arms exporter Rosoboronexport Alexander Mikheyev told the IDEX 2019 international defense exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

"As for S-400, we are holding additional consultations on this project, now this contract [with Saudi Arabia - TASS] is being considered," Mikheyev said."

I have heard that the UAE and Saudi Arabia had interests in buying F-35s. Say the US did not give them F-35s, I have heard before a squadron of F-35s have been moved to the UAE before when S-300s were being moved into Damascus. Say they did purchase the S-400 will there be another Turkey situation such as we refuse to give you F-35s(do they have any contracts?) and not only that but will this effect the US strategic decisions in the middle east?

I thought the fall of western civilization was a tragedy, now I realize it's a comedy.

Seems the su-30s will get new engines and radars by the end of this year.

                                      http://tass.com/defense/1046519

                                      "
The upgrade will boost the fighters combat capabilities: it will increase the range of detecting and identifying air targets and furnish the plane with new precision weapons to hit air, ground and sea targets at a range of several hundred kilometers."

"After completing the work on the Su-30SM upgrade, changing the layout of the onboard radio-electronic equipment to make the Su-35 and the Su-30SM more standardized and thus cut the cost price, and standardizing the airborne weapon systems, this may breathe a new life into the plane," the vice-premier said.

TASS reported in September 2018 that during their upgrade the Su-30SM fighters would also get AL-41F-1S engines mounted on the Su-35 planes. It was also reported in January 2019 that the trials of the modernized Su-30SM multirole fighter jets were expected to be completed before the end of 2019.
