OH interesting. Tu-22M3 will get new missile. I speculate it would be based on the Kh-59MK2. It would be basically Russian analog of US JASSM.

The article suggests the missile is a Kalibr/Kh-101 style large, stealthy, long range conventional cruise missile, that can fit inside the Tu-22M3s bays.

What a weird roll-out. No factory, no tooling, no operators seen around. Jus a big barn door of an empty hangar opening (on a rather elegantly shaped) plane... Next time I fish my last can of beer in the fridge, I will call that too a "roll out"* !

        Noticed the smooth finish otherwise.

        *While trying not to roll-in?

I guess that you want to show the aircraft coming from a pristine hangar for PR reasons. In any case, another photo appeared of the same aircraft before. It was also being towed out of a hangar, but the quality of the photo was really low.

It's a hangar, not the end-line of an assembly line!

IT sames TU-22M3M will get similar equipment as Tu-160M2. the missile mention is kh-32. but I doubt it will be as extensive as Tu-160M2 that is new built plane.

                What is weird about what?
Is it so strange that they remove the large jet from their assembly line to make room for another one, be it new or upgrade..
                Thanks

So, quite big news then that the Tu-22M will be re-engined with the the Tu-160 Blackjacks engine.
Wasn't there a single similarly reingined Backfire many years ago? I seem to recall seeing a picture of it.

How will that effect its range? Will there be an increase?

Yes good news indeed, also according to statements, its electronics suite will be done along the lines of Tu-160M2....which is interesting, as the first modernized Tu-22M3M have Leninet's Novella suite for their radar, I wonder if Tu-160M2 will also get it.

Yes, although of similar maximum output NK-32 has a way greater efficence in dry trust (0,72 kg/kfg/h).

Where is Russia getting all the money to pour into bomber updates. I can see the reason for more Tu-160M2s, but now the Tu-22 upgrades. Wish they would concentrate on PAK-DA big time and get on with it. I know the workshops need modernizing, but the Tu-160M2 production line will do that. Cockpit all glass, new radar, electronics, ECM systems etc, put all into Tu-160M2s and then get your stealth bomber out. Their bomber fleet is almost as big as the US and yet their fighter forces are 25%-30% of the US.

Note the four rows of auxiliary blow-in doors (the 'standard' M2/M3 has three rows)

Very nice indeed! So this means the plant has finaly got its pace up. There is regular Il-476, Tanker and AWACS to be made.

Nice to see those small modifications.
