so they won't send something to Syria before full system trials are over and its being tested by Russia. So it could appear but not till a period after 2017.
That won't stop "news agency" to cook up stuff on their own nonetheless.

The S-400 supplemented with Tor and Vityaz will be awesome. The Problems with S-300/400 now is it can easily be over saturated.. besides, not exactly wise to spend a 46N6 missile on a small drone..
Tor is not used to supplement S-400- it is a tracked platform (in Russia) used in AD regiments as part of mechanized formations.

Pantsir is what protects S-400 units from close-range saturation.
If you wanted more long range rounds, you don't need S-350 at all, but could use 9M96 as it was originally envisioned:

But have the S300 batteries anywhere in the world ever been deployed with 9m96 missiles? Missiles themselves haven't been developed fully until recently, no? And we yet have to wait and see if any s300 batteries will ever get them. Or will it, in Russia's example at least, it be a separate matter, S300 using bigger missiles while 9m96 is used by S350?

9M96 was intended to become a common missile family for S-300PM(U)2, S-400 and later for Redut, Poliment-Redut and S-350. But it didn't, yet. That's why i called it a semi-paper project.

I wonder what went wrong tho.. since it's kinda like decades, since the inception of 9M96 family, and it's already went through trials and such. I heard it's because of the active radar seeker.. but given the design already made its way to Korea and then used as baseline for their own KM-SAM. The fact that it still have problem till now is kinda hair raising.

First time i saw 9M96 mockup at MAKS'1999. And even then it was already under development for at least of two or three years. AFAIK, the problem was described as "the missile is "refusing" to hit its targets" - in other words, there is a problem with its flight-control or/and homing system.

The MS-21 prototype performed a 6h/4200km ferry to Zhukovsky today! Testing progress should pick up further with the extensive instrumentation and infrastructure there. More than 20 flights total on the clock so far.

The missiles designed for the system of S-350 (9M96) are completing trials this year. Either they figured out the problem or they are going an alternative route regarding the seeker. The only tests that we know of being a failure in any recent events has been the Gorshkov launches and failures after 3 seconds. I never heard of the "refusing to hit targets" issue.

Edit: Now I think about it, there may have been some news about the 9M96 having some issues in being able to hold a track to a target. But it really shouldn't take a decade to fix that. So I don't know what the issue is now. Things are rather quiet besides "its being tested, its to finalize testing this year". Thats it....

They're "completing" trials for the last 4 or 5 years, IIRC, and every single year our officials are promising that "S-350 Vityaz will be fielded this or the next year". Just like the 40N6 missile for S-400 which is "completing" these trials since 2009, when Ashurbeily(ex-head of A-A) had declared this for the first time.

While there seems to be some issues, the fact that a photo arrived of the S-350 and mention of the tests, indicates that things are a lot better. Also, the simple fact that the MoD went after Almaz Antey over the delays and issues with the launches of long range missiles for Gorshkov, then re-orientation of the industry, gives good indication that they are really fixing the issues.

I highly, highly doubt Almaz Antey would expand with new factories to have them sit idle, since they were expanded to move production of newer missiles and systems to these other facilities.

Edit: Maybe KBP will have something better in shorter period of time. Who knows, maybe they will have their working Hypersonic SAM missile before Almaz Antey has their system up and running as intended, and then KBP will be a bigger supplier of SAM systems :P

A year ago Peru was looking for a modernisation for it's Su-25 fleet. It was mentioned in the blog diana-mihailova, but the post was deleted. Below you will find some information about the Su-25 fleet. It seems that Peru chose the Belorussian option. Kazakhstan is also supposed to modernise it's Su-25 fleet in Belarus.
