This is ******* disaster. Ka-52 "attacked" fishermen.
    Title says it's a weapon's control-circuit failure. Happened a few days ago near Saint-Petersburg.
how does that even happen, and how on earth was the person with the camera happening to record as the helicopter fired its rockets?? jeez

Another guy was filming right next to that guy:

Clearly military vehicles parked there too, so I take it this was by the shooting range during the preparations for the now-ongoing exercises. It's a bloody wonder nobody was killed!

I wonder how the hell it happened, that's a blunder of mountainous proportions.

Well...often, people love to make photos and videos of the aircrafts, especially passing them at extremely low altitude. Nothing unusual in this.

UPDATE: Probably that weren't fishermen, but some sort of guests/spectators at the military exercise "Zapad-2017". There're rumours this happened when RIO turned ON the Master Switch and system got a short circuit.

          Here's more info (in Russian):
          https://66.ru/news/incident/202950/

Apparently the helicopters were about 500 meters from the intended target they were supposed to fire a rocket salvo at, but one of them suddenly fired prematurely at an impromptu parking lot right next to the firing range, where there were a couple of military officers and some civilian journalists. Two people were injured with concussions, but nobody was killed. Several vehicles were damaged though.

I wonder what happened to the RIO after the incident? Surely the RIO must be able to shut off the master arm switch in the KA-52 or at least have some form of back-up, so that incidents like this do not happen.

Video recorded by guncam of the helo. Looks like it really was an FCS failure - rockets were launched right in that moment when the Master has been turned on.

@Scar. what... did half a dozen ppl get killed ? Cuz that what a *Fing disaster* is.

What actually happened is called a close call.

and guess what... close calls don't count.

Yeas, it's a *******ing disaster when attack heli accidently shooting its weapons on the parking full of people. If someone would have died, it would be a tragedy.

                    @ stealthflanker:

I see, thanks for info. Honestly pretty steep requirements for such a small batch.

The almost unbelievably fortunate outcome that nobody died might indicate that the rockets were fitted with AP warheads (rather than anti-area HE-frag). Seems rather bold to refer to that as 'luck' given the circumstances, but if you have to have a pair of rockets impact right at your feet, I guess it's the preferable alternative!

Why does Russia not develop their version of an AC-130, or are they.
They surely can see how well it works in a situation such as Syria.

Its not at all effective in Syria.
A AC-130'ish platform would have to fly all way from Latakia Airbase. That is just to long a flight. It hampers the on Stationed endurance and response time. And then there is the cost as well. There is a lot of crew attached. Its nothing fast responders Su-25, Su-34, Flankers and attack Helios can'T handle. So why bother. And beside.. are the AC-130 flying above the reach of Manpads all the time?

and now there is another concern related to our flanker deal. That our govt decided to attempt to re-negotiate the numbers of Flankers purchased. Originally it was 8, then 11 and now the number can go as high as 16. The problem is that it does not followed by increase in funding (The budget remains 1.14 B)

Now.. ppl are thinking.. with increase in numbers.. something must be reduced.. what is it ? Armaments deal ? or supports ?

Regarding the supports. esp in point 1 in the documents i posted before. We clearly need a new jet engine test center as our test cell can only accommodate at best F-16 engine.

Could be a pilot/gunner error also.

I cant find price of this recent contract but this will be nearest cost to Ruaf Flankers. Algeria/Indonesia can have other components and I believe training and supporting them Sukhoi employees may also get extra overseas pay.

No. A close call in the biggest war game for the Russian federation since the USSR is not a disaster.
