UAC DEVELOPS INTERCEPTOR TO REPLACE THE MIG-31

      https://www.aviaport.ru/digest/2017/03/17/427901.html

Work on the creation of high-rise of a new generation of interceptors, which in the long term will replace the MiG-31, continues and not only in the RAC "MiG" said RNS General Designer - Vice-President for Innovation PJSC "United Aircraft Corporation" (UAC) Sergey Korotkov .

"Designers are working on this topic", - Korotkov said, when asked about the prospects for the creation of new high-altitude interceptor.

According to him, "the defense ministry said that such a plane is needed."

Korotkov noted that in this study involved not only the Corporation "MiG", which once produced the first Soviet aircraft 4th generation - the MiG-31, but also other KLA designers. "Every design office does not stop in its development, especially in those areas where it has the highest competence," - said general designer.

He did not talk about the future characteristics of the high-altitude fighters and their weapons, referring to the closeness of the topic.

Earlier it was reported that a high-altitude fighter-interceptor MiG-41 can be created in Russia, which will replace the MiG-31.

Svetlana Savitskaya told reporters that the program restoring the park tall interceptor MiG-31 in the composition of air and space forces will allow to leave them in battle formation at least 15 years. "These machines are at least 15 years will ensure our security of these machines without the North and the Far East are not protected by the safety One missile can not be solved.." - Savitskaya said.

MiG-31 - Soviet and Russian double supersonic interceptor long range. The aircraft was developed in the 1970s, it is the first Soviet fighter of the fourth generation. MiG-31 operated since 1981, only 519 units produced.

It has R-73 pylons and MFD's in the back cockpit, so, yes, it's a BM.

Why need a new interceptor when PAK-FA can do the same thing? Unless they think the new interceptor is a PAK-FA variant.

Perhaps because that design is not optimized for this rather specific mission?

Its still about the same as 2014. The Ruble is divorced from oil and interest rates have normalized. The general economic trend is neutral to positive. Not down. I hate to have to nit pick at this but I just don't think your assessment was entirely accurate.

Are you trying to tell us Su-27 can do the same things as MiG-31? Because that is the difference we are talking about here. Last i checked Su-27 cant fly sustained at 20km+ altitude, fire missiles 100km+ away, stay at Mach 2+ for a long sustained time or work in a group covering 1000km+ of airspace.

We're talking about PAK-FA not Su-27. PAK-FA with bigger wings and more powerful engines can easily supercruise at 2000+km/h like MiG-31. PAK-FA can also climb and defend itself much better and can climb at 384 m/s. See around 8 minute mark.

I am comparing MiG-31 to Su-27 to get my point across because PAK-DP is not real, yet. You are clearly missing the point. PAK-FA is not, and will never be interceptor. Just like Su-27 will never be able to fill the tasks MiG-31 is doing, get it? There is a reason PAK-DP is a project. Also jesus christ on a stick, 384 m/s is not a real figure. It is 100% BS and even the most basic critical thinking and google would show that to you.

Your video link is pointless. There is nothing happening at 8 min mark of any relevance to the discussion.

PAK-FA will supercruise over Mach 2 just like MiG-31 and can carry large long range missiles like izd 810 so it can take the MiG-31 role. PAK-DP can just use variant of PAK-FA T-50.

A-emh, fact is that neither MiG-31 supercruise at all, at any quote and/or velocity: it is just that in its supersonic cruise mode; that is something completely different from supercruise, it still flies faster and at a greater range than a F-22 using the said overhyped characteristic.

And with this one last post, my congratulations: you are a serious candidate to the "Bimbominkia of the month" award.

P.S. So, there is not an english equivalent to Bimbominkia, really??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are right regarding supercruise but wrong re F-22. It is not overhyped and yes MiG-31 has longer range while being supersonic by bruteforcing it. But with F-22 USAF had a choice between more fuel or better maneuverability. F-22 ended up with more maneuverability.

Absolutely no way.. not even with Izd.30s..
The MiG-31 cruises at M 2.35.. and it's not supercruise, it has afterburners on..

The F-22 is fantastic when it comes to maneuvrability.. and can, indeed, reach speeds at over M1.7 without burners on.. that is very impressive.. much less impressive is its range while doing so.. in the end one has to ask himself, what is all this good for.. I am kinda undecided regd. this plane..
