In a way you don't have to wonder, given that the completed Airbus product has been around for some time now. Airbus have had to write off hundreds of millions of euros on the A400M because they got it wrong/political constraints eg engine choice really screwed things up. Boeing is in the same position after objecting to the choice of A330MRTT for the USAF

Bit of a case of Boeing losing the opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot, overturning that decision, then making the most of that turnaround and shooting themselves in the foot.

Airbus should not have been authorized to bid so low. Not at least without proper demonstration that they had factory ready specific hardware (refueling systems). Airbus faced its fair share of difficulties and delay (think Voyagers in RAAF and RAF) that proves the low bidding were idealistic at best.

Sorry? Are you kidding? voyagers are working fine thank you, of course they had delays as every or so other planes, but they did not use money from the bid to design a specific civil airplane before designing the KC version, hence their capabilities to propose a cheaper and more efficient plane. What is your problem with european products ? personal?

Airbus took years to reach a proper configuration suitable with customers needs. And that was solved on the client side. When Airbus offered the A330 to the USAF, the Boom was not even designed. This was the object of one post years back on the forum. You might want to take the time to dig this out.

And stop this thing with me. It feels as if I have crabs.

The problems appear to be greater than initially thought... USAF extends KC-46 delivery pause indefinitely.

Not exactly timely news, but interesting. Fighter Pilot's podcast interview with retired USN commander David Fravor. He made the news a few years back for the NYT article about F-18's chasing UFO off the west coast (UFO FLIR footage later captured on same cruise).

                          https://www.fighterpilotpodcast.com/episodes/035-ufos/

He makes an interesting claim that the object employed jamming countermeasures to prevent his radar from locking on. My disclaimer- I don't particularly believe or follow UFO topics but this is a very fascinating interview.

Time will tell, but if they're allowed to F-U the way they managed the A400M, the DOD might not be too happy about it, on the other hand after F-35, they might well have got used to it.
