Belgian NH90-NFH fleet not available due to technical problems

to sum it up, the 3 first helicopters (RN01, 02 and 03) are suffering from radar malfuntion issues (witch have been resloved with RN04 with the instalation of a more reliable radar) aswell as other issues. RN04 will be out for a month due to maintainance, the other 3 are at airbus for retrofits and fixes, the first is due to return in the spring. repairs take 3 to 6 months each.

delays means the 3 remaining Westland SeaKing Mk.48 helicopters (witch were due to retire at the end of 2018) will soldier on until march 2019.

            Old question...

In October 1996, a HAF Mirage 2000 shot down a Turkish F-16D with an R.550 Magic II

Two @Cessna Grand Caravans (N337ZZ and N339ZZ) were seen at Santa Maria, Acores, on delivery to possibly the Cameroon Air Force? The serial and emblem are taped over, but it does hint at Cameroon. Cofirmation is highly appreciated!

This object is presumably a RCS test article because itˋs on an RCS test range, not on an airfield.

Belgian Air force to sell its White Fleet

under the defence reforms, it was decided to dismantle the White Fleet of the Air Component and replace the VIP/VVIP flights with chartered civilian bizjets.
this means the fleet of 2 Embraer ERJ-135, 2 ERJ-145 and 1 Dassault Falcon 900B will possibly be put up for sale.

Airbus ordered to pay 104 million euros to settle Taiwan missile dispute

The scandal around French arms sales to the island in the early 1990s was one of a series of cases that underpinned accusations of widespread corruption during the final years of late French president Francois Mitterrand. [...] Matra Defense, was “reviewing the award before evaluating the next steps to take”.

The arbitration fine comes three months after Dassault Aviation (AVMD.PA), radar supplier Thales (TCFP.PA) and engine maker Safran (SAF.PA) said they had been fined a combined 227 million euros ($276.80 million) in Taiwan to settle the 25-year-old dispute over the wrongful use of commissions in the sale of 60 Mirage fighters to the island.
                                For the record

the air-to-air missiles in question were the MBDA MICA medium-range and R.550 Magic short-range missiles that the military bought for the French-made Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter jets for which it had signed a separate deal in November 1992.

The government’s claims that Matra took kickbacks over the missile sale were indirectly substantiated by the arbitration’s results, the defense official said on condition of anonymity.

France was a major source of arms to Taiwan in the 1990s, including six La Fayette-class frigates, 60 Mirage 2000 jets and weapons used by those platforms, but many of those deals later became scandals amid allegations that French officials, corporate executives and others had demanded commissions in connection with the sales.

Dassault Aviation and two other French aerospace companies on Oct. 25 last year announced that they had been fined by Taiwan’s government combined 227 million euros to settle disputes linked those arms sales.

Dassault said it had been fined 134 million euros, while radar supplier Thales (previously known as Thomson-CSF) said its fine was 64 million euros and enginemaker Safran said its was 29 million euros.

A French court in 2011 fined the French government and Thales a record 630 million euros over the use of commissions to sell the La Fayettes in 1991.

[More on ]French Rafale Fighters to Deploy on Carrier USS George H.W. Bush This Spring

France is sending 350 sailors and naval aviators to deploy with a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier this spring as their nuclear-powered carrier finishes scheduled maintenance, French officials told USNI News.

The April to May deployment will occur just before France’s aircraft carrier FS Charles de Gaulle (R91) is expected to complete a major maintenance period which started in 2015. The aircrews will do carrier qualifications aboard USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), but the intent is to accomplish more than qualifications or cross-deck operations, Capt. Jean-Emmanuel Roux de Luze, French Naval Attach to the U.S. told USNI News.

“We want to demonstrate our ability to integrate with U.S. military services,” Roux de Luze said. “We want to show we do maintenance, demonstrate we can load weapons.”
