Russia has a lot of CAS anyway.
C-SAR from air is done when not enough ground troops. It was defeat Georgian so fast on ground that C-SAR and CAS is moot point and its introduction will create confusion.

Turkey wont dare to atack russian aircrafts fighting ISIS near its border as they do against syrian air force warplanes.
Flanker is not suitable for this kind of role. Flanker only role is loitering to produce radar image and EW support. It need FAB-3000 and FAB-5000 from Tu-22M. it is too reshape the battlefield in such a way that some others lured into it. I think they need to install S-400 in Syria. that will cover aerspace well into Mediteranean/Irak/Turkey/Israel.
it will be the most profitable adventure in Russia history.

Russian Tu-154 with supposedly a MOD delegation has flown to Baghdad today.

How about the KAB-250 - has it been procured yet?

It's not exactly tiny, but at least a "little" less destructive than a KAB-1500

Since when is dropping large bombs somehow a problem? This is the Soviets we are talking about. If there is a blade of grass NOT burnt or a building anywhere still standing they aren't living up to their fullest potential. The bigger the bomb the better.

Interesting. How do you see this related to the build up in Syria?

But seriously wow this is moving quickly.

That flight to Baghdad is 100% related to what is going on. Iraq and Russia have been cultivating a defense relationship for the past several years and they won't be blocking airspace to Russian flights.

What's happening though? To my mind this appears to be very important but on the BBC for example, its not a priority.

Are we saying that Russia is bombing ISIS soon, Russian planes are piloted by Syrian pilots or vice-versa, or Russian jets are positioned in defence of a Russian air bridge to Assad?

In the media, the event doesn't create the news, but the news create the events.

ISIS is not Russias problem they never threatned to invade or attack Russia , so whats the point attacking team , its like making enemies when there is none.

thats not a very clever foresight .. give the ISIS enought room and time, and they will be a major problem for Russia.
Better deal With them now, keep them supressed, than ignore them and face a worse situation later on.

Are you kidding? Wahabbism was created by the CIA especially to destabilize the Russian islamic republics.

There is nothing to buy. It is first and foremost meant to T-50 (ie it is not integrated on existing Flankers) and it hasn't passed state trials.

Seriously tho; what IS happening? Is it just Russia giving a hug to Assad (**** that) or will they actively pound ISIS? (**** yeah) If the later, it would make more sense to send over Su-34's, as good as Su-30SM's are.

Well with the US & their puppets all over the place it's better to send platforms that aren't too sensitive.

Thpse recently upgraded Su25 would be nice though.

Russia hasen't had the chance to test(in a real teather) out New weapons and system on their jets since Georgia.

There might be some larger stand-off weapons launch just to evaluate the effectivnes.
                                      Thanks

nicholas10 if you genuinely believe that the CIA created Wahabism then you should stop posting for some time and do some homework.

Then watch the Bond film and come back ( and you will see).

Perhaps by then you won't feel so confident with your conspiracy theories ( every time with the conspiracy theories!)

Meanwhile Austin, if IS spread northwards just a little, then Russia has an active problem again. Perhaps Assad is getting in the way now that he is not holding ISIS back so well.

You should stop watching TV & read books. Start with a few by Peter Dale Scott for instance.
