They can send more as replacements untill they fully debug the plane and training complete.
One or two were part of development training. MiG29 is highly reliable plane despite most of them built at Soviet times. MIG will need a while to reach Sukhoi .

Everything you wanted to know about Syria but were afraid to ask.....the whole story in video all conveniently in one place...

This includes the framing of the Syrian government for the Sarin gas attack (many of the victims were Syrian government troops) that was confirmed by the UN team investigating to have been actually launched by the rebels (actually supplied by the Saudi "intelligence" (if that's not an oxymoron) General Intelligence Directorate or GID)

4 of them flying with radars data linked? Another anti cruise missile message I guess.

Btw, I don't like to post non-VVS/SyAF related stuff too much in this thread, but you gusy see the recent pics of Hezbollah armor...sheesh they got a lot. Rebels are not in for a good time.

Not only did they seemingly sent MiG-31(s) to Syria... But atleast from that one pic so far it is not a BM/BSM one.

This really makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Someone in MoD must be confusing MiG-29K with MiG-31...

Maybe they finally decided to give a few to Syria, was never sure if those rumors for 8 MiG-31s were fantasy or grounded in some reality...

Other news is Tu-160s and Tu-95s are getting ready for major sorties any day now.

Lemme see; highly complex aircraft that Syrian airforce has no experience with what so ever, no infrastructure for them at all, no fuel to fuel them with that they eat by tonnes in minutes, no technicians that are able to service it and no pilots to fly it to protect Syria from non-existing threats it is supposed to be against. Yeah, giving them to Syrian AF would make no sense whatsoever. But still only makes slightly less sense than to send them there in first place.

The Syrian twitter feed says deployed, presumably meaning deployed by VVS, rather than transferred to SyAF.....makes sense for all the reasons stated by Berkut....SyAF in no shape to handle complex aircraft like MiG-31s.

Begs the question why deploy them unless as you say warning against cruise missile attack?

The MiG-31 deployment, if true, is probability just away to give some pilots operation experience that they can take back to their squadrons. Otherwise it could also be to act as a deterrent for anyone who tries to intervene in the up coming RuAF air campaign that's obviously coming.

Sad news about the MiG-29k lost though good the pilot survived. Hopeful lesson when be learnt from the accident so they don't happen again in the future. Though it would be interesting to know the cause.

                                        Right on a dime.
                                        Those are VKS assets.
                                        But why, and why now?
Have the Russian's picked up Intel on some major Rebell offensive which are backed by all factions.. including US and Turkey?

Me speculating, but why the big show of Russian Force now, all those Navy assets.. what will happen once Mosul are re-taken and Isis is thrown out of Iraq!
The only place left is Syria. A perfect excuse to push a major offensive into Syria for the huge army outside Mosul.
                                        Thanks

they are wise to put airframe hours on MIG-31 and not run down the Sukhois. MIG-31 work like AWACS.
