This Grom thing greatly intrigues me - any idea what the target set is? Apparently it is intended for internal carriage after all:

      http://bastion-karpenko.ru/grom-e1-raketa/

Rocket propulsion, low aspect ratio tail control surfaces, pointed nose cone and metal wings argue supersonic speed, then again a winged configuration would be unusual for such a fast weapon. Yet rocket propulsion seems at odds with stand-off range indicated by said wings - why not an air-breathing engine as on Kh-59MK2? And then there's the second variant, which is apparently an unpowered version which replaces the rocket motor with a larger warhead.

One idea I'm entertaining is that it's a bunker buster - subsonic stand-off glide to the target followed by a rocket-powered diving attack, enabling this ~600kg weapon to punch above its weight in terms of penetration capability? Would also explain the nose cone... Then again, GPS/INS guidance only without terminal EO or laser seems to lack the required accuracy.

Having thought about Grom some more, the concept I suggested above is not at all unprecedented - it's a bit like a combination of BGT HOPE (or Russia's own UPAB-1500, for matter) and the even more recent AFRL High Velocity Penetrating Weapon. So, a replacement for the KAB-1500 penetrator variant compatible with internal carriage?

                    Sapsan is old garbage.

                    This is something much newer:

Really happy with all the developments that are coming out for the MiG-35. RuAF's MiG-35S looks like its going to turn out to be quite a capable aircraft. Just a pity its taken this long.

Hopefully we'll see some of these mod passed on as upgrades to the India's and Russia's MiG-29K.

Lift fans must be a joke, but embedded arrays quite interesting:

Interesting is height finding arrays, as well as the rear arrays.

Lift fans are improbable, I agree. But would not dismiss out entirely.

What I want to know is what the fans in the wings are for? Are they to replace the flight controls? Because they aren't for VTOL, as there isn't anything shown lifting the vehicle ahead of the center of mass. Either that, or the model doesn't show how it would generate lift at the nose.

More realistic utilisation of lift fans:

Don't think it was posted here, but MiG-35S will be getting the "3D" radar indeed, great news!
