It was a great opportunity (lost) for Belgium to recover it's aviation manufacturer history.
The aircraft study was passed to Canada with some modifications (Phoenix Fanjet Sigmajet with 2 seats and Phoenix Fanjet Magnajet with 4 seats), but with same result till now.

with thanks to Archangelski & Freehand ; about the 'so-called Belgian' Squalus ...

.... let's remain honest ....it was in fact an ITALIAN one !!! ;http://www.airliners.net/photo/Proma...1f10ea1813b0ed

                    ............................................. http://www.sbap.be/archivalia/squalus/squalus.htm

and... it never flew 'so' ; http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/4...sabenaooje.jpg

but was NOT manufactured by Promavia !! ;http://www.airliners.net/photo/Proma...18d5206db8ea00

                    about STELIO FRATI ;http://users.skynet.be/aeroscript/ol...ortpeople.html

Not really a totally Belgian aircraft : the design was effectively asked to a well known Italian, Stelio FRATI.
IF I'M NOT WRONG :the first prototype of Squalus was effectively built in Milan but, if commands were going further, production will later be procured in SONACA of Gosselies. The home company of Squalus was in Belgium (PROMAVIA chairman was Andr DELHAMENDE) and financed at 50% - reduced to 38 % later - by Belgium government (118 Billions of then FB) and other 50 by PROMAVIA company and privates. The Belgian government obtains also the possibility to export the engine (TFE-190-1).
As your own post suggest, the aircraft was appreciated, and tested, by many manufacturers and pilots (Israelian, Russian, English, Canadian and ... American ones have piloted it). Not so bad for a little country.

Flying high the colors (from beginning of the video to 1:55) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ_JiBztDqI#t=10

Note the apparently different insignia on the two T-6s. The one with the yellow is correct, but the one with the orange is due to chromatic effects with the film that distorted the yellow to make it look orange. Even Heller mistakenly took this as an alternative Gabonese insignia in their 1/72 T-6 kit.

some other rare image... from facebook group https://www.facebook.com/SqwrAljwAlrbyt

A veteran Iraqi pilot with many years experience (1980s war against Iran, against kurdistan and 1991). His Mirage F1 was hit in the air and he managed to bring it down.

The picture below is a VERY RARE picture from an Iraqi airbase during the 1991 war. Damaged mirage in the aftermath.
