Aha! We're on to your master plan, Cees! It'll keep on growing till it sprouts a Type E and four engines!

The cockpit section now sports 13 mission symbols.

One for each year since I started collecting parts.

It looks great. Pics to follow later.

One some pics in various books I noticed stenciling below the canopy sill on the starboard side. Not very clear but the top line read DTD and below that some numbers. Does dis state the pain specification? I hope to be able to find the correct text. Are any stencils available or easy to make to reproduce this on the cockpit?
yes, the devil is in the details:diablo:

The newly made pilot's seat backrest cushion is fitted as is the fire-extinguisher. The pilot is already trying it out for size.

The paint specification is usually recorded as
                      DTD
                      xxx
                      S

where xxx is a two or three figure number, and S stands for synthetic paint (previously C for cellulose). I don't know the stores reference number for Grey Green, presumably the colour used for Halifax interiors, but suspect it will be in the high 300s or low 400s.

A slight thread-hijack here, but I wonder if anyone can tell me what the metal mesh basket in the Halifax Flight Engineer's position is for? It's on the vertical bulkhead section behind the pilots position.

This is the only photo I could find showing it (apologies for the 'fish-eye' image), in the centre of the image on the rear of the perforated bulkhead:

                            http://www.yorkshireairmuseum.org/wp...fax_2_jpeg.jpg

It's the second image on this page:

                            http://www.yorkshireairmuseum.org/halifax-360vr-tours

(the 360 images won't work on my Mac for some reason...I can get the smaller version).

                            Regards

                                  Small world

I happened to google Halifax and found this thread. If any of you are still around you may be interested to know that your thread in 2010 (January) about Semper in Excreta refers to my father. He painted this insignia on all 50 odd types he flew in during the war. The Halifax he died in also carried it. It has been the family motto ever since!
Skull and crossbones covered by an umbrella underscored by Semper in Excreta.
Just in case you are interested. If anyone is still out there!

                                    Hi there,

I think everyone is still here. Thanks for you reply. Very interesting to read about your father's artwork. At first I planned to paint a known nose art on the cockpit but later decided against it.
Otherwise it would replicate something that had been there already.
Now it is an anonymous Halifax representing the 7.176 (7.178 depending on the source) built Halifaxes.

                                      It's been a while I noticed,

Some more interior painting has been done

                                      Finish is in sight
