                It sure has!

Thanks for your honesty and the credit, Lindy's Lad! Nice job on "Dooleybird"!
I am perhaps a little touchy on the subject as I know someone who cloned the "Daddy's Girl" composition but with Spitfires and Heinkels and then another one with Spitfires and Lancasters. And those were paid commissions for a movie project! Can't say I was pleased...
"Daddy's Girl" is definitely my most popular piece and I am glad it inspired you. Now if only I could get some people to actually buy some prints of it... I sold some, but not a lot...

Awesome work on the leaden skies and brake chutes, jindabyne!

                  Painting by numbers

Here's todays offering (and yes the aircraft was completed in a couple of hours....)

1: Background completed in pastel tones - purposely indistinct to provide a backdrop to an aircraft portrait. The horizon is angled to break up the picture - horizontal horizons tend to split the picture, whereas by angling it provides a new dynamic. Once it is dry (5 days on average), transfer a basic line drawing of the aircraft to the board. At this point I should point out that I draw the aircraft in pencil on paper to provide a reference for shading. This pencil drawing can be then traced and applied directly to the board.

2: I hate doing afterburners, so this is where I started. All detail is included as we progress. The distant wing is also completed.

3: Fin tones are added, again as much detail as possible is included.

4: Fuselage and cockpit completed. The light source is top left, away from the viewer.

5: Nearest wing completed. Lightest tonal range - its the closest part to the viewer.

6: Sqn markings and panel lines added. Just need a frame (and cut the top of the board off......)

                        WELL DONE PAUL!

A much belated well done to our very own Paul C who has scooped the Alex Henshaw Trophy with his rendition of Henshaw's Mew Gull (couple of pages bac, sunset shot) 'Long Flight Ahead'.

The Annual Exhibaition at the Mall Galleries in London was held way back in July, but the report has only just landed on my doormat in the shape of the Guild's Quarterly News.

                            Cheers

Me to. I think I may even turn up at a few Northern Region meetings and put up with some harsh crit-ing. Maybe I'll try to get in next year exhibition... I'm not that good with certain rejection though....

Speaking of which..... apparently this one is on display with YHPG at Aeroventure.

and yes, I hate it - must try harder.

My latest effort - Botha W5096/41 and Lysander R2549/15 from 4 AGS, RAF Morpeth in 1942. Original done in colour, then converted to monochrome, aged and scratched in Photoshop:

Some fabulous images displayed in this thread, the talent is truly amazing. My favorites would have to be the Henshaw Gull and the glider towing. Well done to all who have contributed.

Ah, that's my intro. A print of this, signed by five Luftwaffe pilots, hangs on my wall, Eagles Over The Steppes by Graeme Lothian.

Thought I would show this, its a commission showing the BBMF over their home base. Still a work in progress but despite my terrible photography its looking good so far.
