Unfortunately I won't be going but if anyone else is and is able to get pictures of FG.1s XV582 and XV586 and post them here I would be so grateful, by the way, is XV582 still in the magnificent 'Black Mike' colourscheme?
Regards, Dazza.

I dont know if I took any pics of Black Mike but it is still in the same colurs. I think it kind of a historic scheme for this aircraft and dont think it wil change but if my photo come out I will look through them and post a couple here.

Nice one Merlin, hope you got some shots, I think Black Mike was one of best colour schemes ever to grace any F-4 let alone a RAF variant.

here's a couple of shots of XV582 that I took on Saturday. She was being used all day for photos of kids in the cockpit, hence the platform.

Typical of a British airshow, barriers and access platforms as close as possible to the aircraft. When will the organisers realise that children would be just as happy sitting in Thomas the Tank engine and leave the real airplane alone.

-RE: Disagree strongly!
Airshows aren't just for fans like us to take pictures.
Airshows are about entertainment and with a little bit of luck education.
If one of those kids who sat in the cockpit of the F4 goes on to join us here in a couple of year's time then it was surely worthwhile.
And what if it does have rails and platforms around it? That is what was there. Are the purists trying to pretend they've taken a picture of an operational aircraft? Why? There's a million pictures of F4s around without rails. What is your picture going to add?
We need the money through the gate to keep the aircraft flying. And if this means we can't take a picture of a dead aircraft and then go on to pretend it is live, that's a small sacrifice IMO.

Nice pics above though :-)

I agree with your view. If for one day in the year some kids (of all ages) get some hands on experience of an aircraft and gain an interest in aviation, then it is worth all the barriers. There are other chances to get photos without the barriers, there aren't many chances to sit in a Phantom.
Ken
ps thanks for the remarks re the photos

Thanks for posting the pics for Dazza Ken. I now doubt that my pictures will come out as when I went to wind the film back the whole thing went slack like when its at the end of the roll winding it back in but when I opened it the bloody film was still there. Nightmare!!! will have to wait ans see what comes out.
Great shots Ken better than mine anyway.

Talking of Lightnings, was I the only one who noticed the Lightning in 111 sqn marks next to the F3 in the hangar had a drip tray under it with fluid of some kind in it. This gives life to the old saying
"If a Lighning isnt leaking it's empty". Nice to know Leuchars are keeping it alive and 'full'.

-RE: Pictures
didn't notice the drip tray, but then again I don't look at the ground when I see a lightning, too busy stopping my jaw dropping too far!!
Not sure about the metalic paint scheme, but possibly tis better than leaving unprotected aluminium. At least she is getting some tlc. But the grey radome is a bit too much.
