Well to be honest it was a guess. I figured the aircraft was an STM-2. It doesn't have US Army titles on the bottom of the wings, so it's likely foreign. The only air forces I know that used the STM-2 were the Dutch and Guatemalan air forces. The wing markings match those of Guatemala.

PS. The six-sided stars are very unusual!!!

The book is a bit behind schedule..but it is coming out soon. The Ryan with the six-point-star appears to be a demo Ryan for a foreign customer.c.1938.

We'll get bck to you with the P-47 "Razorbacks" question in 24 Hrs. Most of the P-47 Thunderbolts that came to the U.S fm Latin countries c.1970s were P-47D/P-47N models. Poss Brazil may have flown some during WW II.

We did some digging about the P-47 Razorbacks in Latin America.

At least one sample was exported to the Bolivian AF. The earlier model P-47D AAF 42-8205. It never flew with Bolivian AF & ended-up as gate guardian Reg BAF 007. This particular sample came back to the U.S c.1970s and flies regularly in the U.S. It is on display at the Museum of Flight. Seattle. WA. Photo C. Gardner.

                                    The second poss P-47 Razorback went to Brazil c. 1944. S/N 41-6037. Brazilian AF 4103. Ended-up in in a technical school in Brazil c. 1967. Ref. P-47 T-Bolt Book. The Final Chapter via D.P. Hagedorn. c. 1990s.

                                    All for now!!

Pictured below is another Ryan STM with an alleged Guatemalan AF scheme. Picture c.1938 somewhere in St Diego, Calif during testing flights.

The criteria used by LAAHS.com to ID this particular aircraft as one of the Guatemalan AF samples is weak. It relies solely on the star diagram on the wings. In addition, none of these aircraft are shown in country showing any armament. We are still digging the origen of the 6 point star.

Hmmm... it does seem to lack the USAAF striping on the rudder, but it's really hard to tell.
