-Is that some kinda new fangled direction finder on top of the cockpit in the 2nd pic?

-;) Knew some wag would notice that!

-Alternatively, they could always apply for a HLF grant and put it back in the air! :)
Never miss a chance to have a dig, do you?
We already know you "know" XH558 will never fly. You don't need to keep reminding us.

-Just how long can this Vulcan last before it falls apart completely ?
By: 16th June 2005 at 22:50 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-Other than the undercarriage collapsing, I woudn't have thought it is likely to fall apart?
By: 16th June 2005 at 22:54 Permalink - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00
-Im betting on XH558 not flying at the moment, odds on at the moment. :D

-If she flys and something went wrong it would most likely end airshows full stop. thats my opinion on that they have to be realistic.

-I feel it my duty to do so.You see, there are some misguided souls out there still genuinely expecting to see it flying at airshows next year.
And there's at least one misguided soul here that's sure it won't.
Of course I'm not privy to your information that BAe (or whatever they're called this week) and Marshall Aerospace haven't a clue what they're getting into and they're wasting their time and money. Perhaps you'd like to impart this knowledge to them. I'm sure they'd be grateful.

Is this bloody tedious sniping now going to occur every time the mere word "Vulcan" is mentioned? FWIW, Stewart1a, you're wrong. You could say the same of Sally B - but would you suggest that should be grounded "in case"?

-Sally B wasnt the 'Dog' airframe of her squadron 558 was plagued by alot of tech problems during service i believe. I was told this by a friend who actually works on her so information is often considered hearsay from him.

Stress corrosion (damp, salt air plus aluminium alloys) will reduce any airframe to dust. Its just a matter of time.
XL391 will never fly again. I hope XH558 will. I'll be watching XM655 fast taxi on Sunday (£'s make planes fly).

-Personally I'm sick of hearing about both these aircraft.
I'm past caring if 558 ever flies or 391 is scrapped.
Totally underwhelmed by the predicament of both is how I feel.

-XL391 will never fly again.
I think that's something we can both agree on!
And I also wish the "XH558 will never fly" brigade would give it a rest...

If only it was on this forum that I heard about it!

-Reminder that this was a thread about the state of poor old XL391 chaps... ;)

-No, Dan, sadly it's another chance to play "I told you so" by some forum stalwarts who've sucessfully pissed off and driven away enough other regulay posters to make this forum progress at half the speed it was doing. :(
At least it means I'm forced to do some other things I SHOULD be doing, rather than wasting my time following interesting and enlightening discussions. But it's a pity nevertheless.
Hole, doughnut, doughnut, hole. Your choice.

Was up in Blackpool last week, and with the camera in the boot and a few minutes to spare I thought I'd get my first (and quite possibly last) look at Vulcan XL391. What a mess she is.
Does anyone know what the pub landlord's plans are? Last I heard he wanted to save the cockpit section only.
My only fear is that these pictures don't show what a dreadful state she's in. Scrapping would almost be a mercy... :(
