Something quite interesting came in yesterday a note book with the observations of bombers as viewed by the author, where were these observations viewed from? He puts his address on the inside of the note book as 17 Westbrook Swindon, if the reading were taken from there, how does he know the destinations of the aircraft. If he was stationed as a base then there wouldn't have been so many different types recorded.

That would be his neat log book, he filled in the locations later from news reports. This was common for ROC watchers who were prevented from making notes direct from official log books kept at the post. Sadly many of these unofficial log books have been lost. I know of a former wartime spotter from Preston who showed me a few pages from his logs which detailed markings with sketches. He never took his actual logs out of the house using scrap paper for notes at the time. If caught with logs he could have been in trouble.
