Thank you G-ORDY. I'd concluded that it was G-AFRV (the Tipsy Trainer now in the Brussels museum), but judging from that extract from Mole's autobiography it appears that I was wrong and it was, in fact, G-AFRT. But if that's the case, it seems that Tipsys were rather accident prone in 1939 as the Brussels museum website says, of G-AFRV, that:
'The aircraft was manufactured in 1939 and registered G-AFRV, flying for the first time on July 22 1939. The first owner was General Aircraft Ltd. at Feltham. G-AFRV was damaged in an accident at the end of 1939, was repaired and flew again in July 1941, then the aircraft was stored between May 1944 until September 1947.'
and the Postcards from Slough website says:
'G-AFRV had sustained a heavy crash and needed extensive restoration including a new wing and a new tail.'

Can anyone identify the Tipsy, flown in this race by Sqn. Ldr. E.L.Mole, which crashed at Capel Hangar, in the second heat, on 5 August 1939?
