    Beach find Tyre ID

An FB contact of my other half posted this, which they found near Spurn Point:

I tried to help, firstly thinking it was Stirling - but then checking it's not - Stirlings were 26.5 - 21.

Frustratingly, Lancasters were 22.5 - 26 - I believe Halifaxes used the same?

This has me floored - this is from a very large aeroplane, and looks like a standard Dunlop 'heavy' tyre - outer diameter, the finder says, between 5.5 and 6 feet. But what?

The Vol.1 I've got shows 24.00 X 19 for both the Lancaster and Halifax.

To clarify 24.00 X 19 for AH2238 wheels used on Lancaster and Halifax but the Lancaster and York could also be fitted with AH8268 wheels which used the 22.50 X 26 covers.

Thanks Anneorac! That's the benefit of primary sources - Lancaster 'lore' has AH 8268's wherever you look!

OK, folks, Lancaster/Halifax losses around Spurn Point? I suspect there are many.. I wonder whether the different hubs indicate Mk?

There should be a date on the tyre too, Beermat. It's usually in a recessed stamping on the side somewhere.

It might help to confirm the i/d.
