I am sure it's obvious to many, but I can't identify this aircraft. It was used by Bennett Melvill Jones for boundary-layer research in the late 1930's out of Duxford. Jones was with the University of Cambridge Engineering department, which normally used University Air Squadron Avro Tutors for research purposes. This one appears in a seminal paper by Melvill Jones.. looking like my next TAH article - but first I need help with the basics!
Also this wing, which may or may not be the same aircraft. taken by Jones standing on his seat, attached by a rope. Those are wool tufts on braced 'masts'.
