I have to say that 'HOSKINS' spanner looks a lot more 'furniture' orientated than 'aircraft' orientated!

Rover Meteor tank engine, but more importantly, they are bare forgings, so nothing like Merlin rods.
        The description should read:
"I can[not] say factually that they are [NOT] actually from a Merlin"
If I had a quid for every time someone mentioned "buried crated Merlins", I could buy one!

I've got one of these unmachined rods somewhere; it was sold as a 'Meteorite' (the V8 Meteor engine) rod when I bought it.

They would be compatible with the Meteorite, yes. I don`t fully understand the chronology of them. The Meteor Mk1 and some other early models had Merlin rods. There was also a later scheme to use Merlin rods with a small hole drilled in the web to ID them, and many of the late, post 1970`s overhauls seem to use Rover built rods which are identical to the late pattern Merlin type, and fully machined. The only engines I have seen fitted with the bare forged rods are Meteor Mk3s, ex Cromwell tanks.
We have a Meteorite here with the late type rods, but that was overhauled by Aviation Jersey, possibly quite late-on?

Interesting stuff turns up in odd places. Also via the saleroom there was a fine art sale last week that included a "RNAS Sword" I think it was actually a pre war RAF Air Rank sword, I'll know later this week.
