-If you're referring to the small patch usually seen above the right pocket of the Aircrew Blouse (battledress) then it would be an unofficial name tag. These were made by the crew themselves or on the base rather crudely from a scrap of leather with their name either stamped or written on. Obviously a variation of the official USAAF leather name tags and seen often on RCAF Aircrew flight clothing in particular. Paratroopers also did the same and seen on photos of their Denison smocks.

I'm sure everyone else knows the answer, but I don't, so here goes: I've seen a lot of WW2 aircrew photos which show aircrew with a light coloured panel above their uniform breast pockets. Did this panel carry their name or, if not, what was it? All replies welcomed. Thanks. Andrew
