Wow! That is something I will follow with interest. Has it got the legs for the oceanic sectors? Presumably if they can route through Russia round the northern Pacific, the crossing of the Bering Straight isn't too far, but it must be 700 or 800 miles for each part of the Atlantic hop.

Just read about this! Anybody know which spitfire it is going to be that's doing it?

It appears that it will be MJ271, a Mk.IX that is currently under restoration. It is better known as the static example that was restored in Dutch colours a few years ago and spent some time static at Duxford before the restoration began. G-INFO lists the owner as Boultbee.

It sounds like an exciting project, best wishes to all involved.

Well that will well and truly blow away the cobwebs after languishing in the hangars at Duxford - can't wait to see a polished Spitfire...

R4118, yep it is/was...

Cheers Bob!
Had wondered what had happend to her! There was talk of her being butchered into a two seater so I'm glad she's being rebuilt as a single seater......at least for the time being!

I just internally asked myself if two seaters will eventually outnumber single seaters. If it means many more people can have their dreams fulfilled...

I must say I'm a little bemused by the rationale too, but hey, it's getting another one airworthy, and I'm absolutely captivated by the CGI renderings they're using. No idea who the artist is, but they're the most convincing I've ever seen, by a country mile.
Hopefully this link to one of them posted on FB:
