Was the last time she was parked in this area at DX when she arrived back in 1975 ?

Perhaps an opportunity to remind ourselves of her previous life from slides in my collection.

As the Museum likes to get aircraft movements out of the way before the Public are let loose inside, some over the fence shots in far from ideal lighting conditions of the Britannia on its Bimble from Airliner Row to AirSpace where it will be tucked up nice and warm for the next couple of weeks while it has a bit of paint applied. In the order taken.

My memory is telling me that the Britannia was restored and repainted at some point in the 90s. I'm sure someone will be along to let me know if I'm hallucinating.

-Definitely went in during the 90's and I believe there may have been pictures and possibly a small article in Flypast. Can't remember the year, sorry.

-Thanks for the pictures chaps. It's still a very elegant airliner, just a pity it took so long to develop.
Happy New Year all.

-Love her in the BOAC scheme. That always looked 'elegant' somehow...... memories as a young lad stopping my bowling run at junior cricket at Taren Point just to the south of Sydney Airport to watch a Comet approaching gleaming in polished metal and blue..... ahhhh memories.....

-I guess it would be in the 1970's, one of the holiday companies operating the Britannia out of Luton on holiday flights advised in their brochure their all jet fleet...and had a nice ground shot on the ramp of a Britannia with the prop blades air brushed out and jet intakes substituted.

Beautiful wall to wall blue sky and sunshine day but woolly hats and gloves were still required. The Fighter Collection provided the entertainment with both their P-40C & F having engine runs and thanks to TFC for parking them on the Jet Pan for easy photographic access. During the engine runs I got my first proper sight, since its arrival, of the bright yellow ex Boscombe Down/QinetiQ Harvard which made a brief appearance in the sunshine as the camouflaged T-28 was extracted from Hangar 2 which went flying later in the afternoon after I had left. In the order taken.

-Spent today at Duxford not much happening in the air or outside no doubt due to the weather and poor visibility, but slightly of topic i listened to a talk of Sir Douglas Bader.
I thoroughly enjoyed the information given given in no 4 Battle of Britain Hanger at 2pm, it was given by a very knowledgeable Yorkshire man who put Douglas across extremely well making his story humorous and sad at the same time.
Sir Douglas was certainly a true Gentleman, heroic and arrogant at the same time, but was total respected by all and rightly so. i came away with total respect but that word just dosnt seem big enough..
Totally recommend this talk given by the Museum and a big pat on the back must go the the volunteer who gave it..
The photo below shows Douglas"s original dress tunic.
