    Gerards Colorbook

It all started with the search of a color picture on a Latvian pre WW2 aircraft, the one with the red swastika I mean. I found out that such picture doesn't exist. A forum member (other forum) offered to color a b&w picture for me and here is the result: (enjoy watching the past coming to life)

after seeing that I started to color b&w pictures myself.

Bulgaria with roundel used from 1937 - 1941

Italian Navy Roundel used for less then a few years

the higher the resolution the better the result but sometimes it is not possible to find a good high resolution picture so you have to do with what you find

    Turkish Air Force WW1

    Latvia national Guard

    Piaggio P180A

Below the 3 differnet position of the roundel used by the Dutch pre 1939

    Fokker C-VIII W

    Dornier Do Wal

    Focke Wulf 58B

and I did also some pictures not for roundel purposes, just for fun

    unknown where and wenn

Many of the hand coloured postcards of the day were, to use a technical term, crappy qualityeven before the colouring, so I wouldn't get too bothered about the uality of the original image. I love that you've found some really unusual subjects - what on earth is that spectacular marking on the Heinkel 51?

Brilliant job, those were fantastic to see!:I've done some photo touch ups myself but just of old family members. Its fun but time consuming. Not tried colourising yet tho
What I know about planes you could write on the back of a beer mat, but I'm looking for bigger beer mats!

Sikorsky S-92 with maybe Howard Hughes in front. Aircraft was modified for a film shoot but crashed killing the pilot.

The Bulgarian Heinkel appears to have more colors if these drawings are to be believed. You can see the outlines of the stripes in your photo as well.

Many vintage black and white photo's were supplied with paints so you could colour them in yourself.
This picture for example shows my father and friend, probably Falmouth aboard the battleship HMS Anson.
My father told me that he coloured the picture in with it's supplied paints at the time.
It was something different to send home to your family before the advent of colour film.

You coloured the picture using your finger and some spit!
