I need a bit of help with this one. Pictured Johnnie W Colburn pilot, B-17 388th Bomb Group based Knettishall 1944. I know all about him, but what is the object behind he is posing by? I thought it could be a drop tank of some sort but it looks much bigger than all the ones I've seen of the period. In that it's standing up I think it's the tail section, but it has no fins etc. Writing can be seen and an aerodynamic strip. Ideas? If drop tank, from what? Could also be taken at Snetterton as Johnnie was a lead pilot of the group. They also visited RAF bases, Tuddenham for sure on the night 6th June - could it be RAF? [ATTACH=CONFIG]236837[/ATTACH]
