(Geoff Goodall Aviation History site.....not anything to do with me)

    Cairns Airport had a DC-3 on a pole - a decade or so past. It's a bigger, more-travelled (traveller) airport, so a Belfast-on-pole is a natural upgrade.

Anymore updates available from those in the area?

Back in March, there were reports of engine runs from a local group. Nothing since.

23-Jan-2019, it's still on the General Aviation tarmac. Seems to have been moved, reparked or repositioned slightly. Still looks in good nick, and appears to have fresh paint on the propellors (or perhaps just cleaned). A few photos attached below.

Discussion with the tarmac workers' rumour mill noted that in past years there had been some talk (shadow whispers) of it ending up at Sid Beck's Museum on the Atherton Tablelands - inland of Cairns. However, it appears that Sid Beck's Museum has been closed for a few years and the tanks and aircraft dispersed elsewhere. (Sid Beck had passed away a few years ago.) So presumably, no concrete plans to move the Belfast there.

A story I heard recently claimed that someone connected with the current owners were saying they had a UN contract to move military vehicles out of certain African nations, hence the engine runs and general clean-up. I understand there may be a few airport charges to clear first....and then a few regulatory matters.

I was sent to Cairns for work and I managed to get a lift over to the Belfast and I managed to take some photos for you all. There is a bit of work being done on her time to time. Latest is that she will be flown to Singapore. However like all things in aviation I will believe it when I see it. Either way it would be great to see this old girl fly again.

Bravo Brenden, I expect these photos will be very well-received here! She looks pretty good from them.

Anytime Geoff. I was just lucky enough to be sent to the other side of the country for work. I am glad that we are all on here to talk about and preserving historic aircraft.
