          After a much delayed C of A the Dornier back at Ashcroft and we hope to operate a few trips before Christmas subject to weather.

            Earlier in this thread you mentioned the problem with re-painting the Dornier in German colours. I was at Duxford a few weeks back and Tony de Bruyn came in in his OV-10 Bronco and it was in German military colours. Maybe worth a chat if that's the way you're going?

              Hi Oz

              Will maybe re apply to German Embassy and contact the Bronco group. We have spent more than we wanted on maintenance and are trying to go from C of A to permit as a means to simplify matters. Fixed costs, insurance, hangarage and maintenance about 6k pa before you put fuel in it or money aside for engine and prop.

              Having said that, once up we always enjoy the experience and the D27 really can land on short grass strips and leap out of them with 270hp and a big wing with slats, flaps and drooping ailerons. Cruise fuel about 45 litres an hour.

              It would be a finishing touch to have it in German or Portuguese colours will follow your lead.

                  Hi Tony have loosely followed changes via HAA but hope that common sense will prevail. To us it seems daft that younger ex mil jets can fly around the UK on a permit yet the D27, an orphan type, is still required to get a C of A. As it happens the Dornier in good shape after a wing re build at St Athan and a relatively young engine.

                      Lovely pictures and quite a contrast to the flatlands of East Anglia where I fly. Mind you we can get some nice shots with the early morning mists at the moment.

                        Will come across at some point. I like the coast of Norfolk and Suffolk great beaches and even the fens and great drain have a certain charm but you have to keep an eye out for birds and cables if at 500 feet.

                                Not that we are aware of, recovered some parts from Norfolk this year, see above. Had a long chat with Roger and get the feeling that the issue of FHs theft was complicated by other matters. Would love to get hold of a spare engine and prop so if anyone knows of one send us a pm.

                                      Yes spoke to train manager and the CAA at Manchester about 500 foot rule before trying it but missed filming the train where we wanted and caught up with it at Chirk. Had to fly higher and without professional film camera it looks and feels a bit distant. Stills a better call when chasing a train as one can zoom in and up shutter speeds etc. lastly, not all train enthusiasts welcome a Dornier floating alongside!

                                        Dornier. have you thought of using something like a Canon 5D3 you can then mount the lenses of your choice on them and as well as being a still camera it shoots HD, the new version is about to be released ( which I'm buying) so the prices will drop, but you can also hire them for days or weeks at a time when you intend to do something special, they also can record hD as well as taking stills at the same time..

                                        If you have watched Ice pilots, you will see them fixed in the cockpit for filming, or used for filming the artwork being produced on portrait artist of the year...

                                          Hi Tony, Jason is our regular cameraman but he is sometimes away on projects so if you would like a trip to take pictures of something specific we could come to an arrangement. For something local Elaine and I would not charge as long as you share the pictures and own risk although we are insured for pax.
