As part of the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum's Falklands Commemorative Weekend, this coming Saturday and Sunday, the 23rd & 24th June, the museum has plans to display it's collection of Falklands-related aircraft on their grassed area, outside the main hangar. This is the first time that all these SYAM aircraft have been displayed outside, together, at the same time and they will be augmented by a 'guest appearance' from Westland Wasp XT788, which is on short-term loan to SYAM.

The museum has a number of genuine Falklands veterans amongst its collection of aircraft, as well representative aircraft of the types used by the British Forces in the 1982 conflict. Additionally, there are a number of displays and exhibits relating to the Falklands War on show in the hangar, including an 8ft model of the task force flagship, HMS Hermes.

Members of the 'Forces 80' re-enactment group will be in attendance during the weekend, displaying Falklands period uniform and equipment.

It is planned to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to attend a 'night photo shoot' after the normal museum hours, on the Saturday evening. This is the first time that such an event has been attempted and will be very much dependent on demand and weather considerations.

The types that will be displayed for the Falklands Collection photo shoot will be:

H.S. Harrier XV752
Westland Scout XP190
Westland Gazelle XX411*
Westland Wessex XS481*
Westland Sea King XV677*
Westland Wasp XT788

* Actual Falklands service.

Additionally, Falklands veteran Westland Scout XV139 will be available for viewing and photography but isn't going to be moved onto the grassed area.

Entrance to the night time event will be from 20.00 hrs onwards and will be charged at the standard museum admission price of £5.00 adults: £4.00 OAPs: £11.00 Family: £2.00 Children.

Please note that it isn't getting dark until after 22.00 these days, so plan accordingly!

From the SYAM website

Once again, the Great British weather has spoiled a good weekend. Checking the Museum website just now, I found the following:

Sadly, due to a waterlogged field, it will not be possible to host the outdoor part of this weekends Falklands Event, the area being unsuitable for parking large aircraft in its current state. The museum's Falklands collection will still be on show in the hangar alongside the other exhibits advertised throughout the weekend. We apologise for any dissapointment caused however the current poor weather is unfortunately beyond our control. :(
