Should the locking mechanism be modified?

I stand corrected re the IAC incidents.

Given the lack of incidents during their service life and the propensity for restored T IX's to end up on their belly, is their a need for a modification?

If so, who would design the Mod and who could approve it?

If the design authority is Supermarine, how could a proposed modification be presented to them? Where are Supermarine these days and what do they do?

Given the number of ongoing Spitfire and Seafire restorations, should a new design authority be set up with representatives from the principle restoration firms?

Regarding damage after bellylanding last week, damage on MJ772 seems to be minor, at least what is obvious by looking at this photo at MeierMotors website:

Merlin -to have a design authority you are going to need access to engineers for stress analysis and design. That is going to incur significant cost plus a new design authority would realistically need to look at every modification done to Spitfires since Vickers Supermarine stopped supporting the type.

The design authority would effectively be taking on liability for modifications
done and that could create a lot of headaches!

I think this thread has come to the end of its useful life; please refer to the Meier motors thread for subsequent information.
