No, I dont know what its from either, but someone might recognise this lightweight handle. Found buried on an airfield along with other airfield and aircraft related junk. No markings apparent, and not a vehicle/engine starting handle as the 'dog' is not the type to disengage easily.
Another long shot but you never know:)

Another 'identify this' post!
definitely not a post!

Could it be an ARS handle? Was wondering initially if it was a hangar door mech handle but looks to 'nice' with that brass hand grip!

Yes it is finished off a little too good for that MM, The dog is adjustable in length too. lightweight as in carried on board an aircraft maybe?

Looks like a winch or gearbox winding handle with a long engagement slot and possbly a retaining boss/bolt.

Definately not a starting handle.

Yes Hangar doors were/are normally square drive :)
The Hangar that I am based in now still has the original type square drive 'Andles' ...mid 30's 'C'type.
Mind you up until a year or so ago we were in our beloved WW1 twin bay GS shed...with no 'Andles'...they were still 'Handraulic' AKA 'Armstrong' :)

Looks like it may be a Merlin engine starter handle.

I wondered if the older Air Raid Sirens had a small detachable handle like that.
Maybe a winding handle for an aircrafts' trailing aerial?
How long is the leg of the handle?

Baz, yep definitely very under nourished for hangar door winder!

Just guessing really!:o

Full measurements are as follows:
Brass handle 6½ inches long, with half an inch of steel tube welded to the
tapered Main shaft which is 8 inches long. That is welded to a 1½ inch steel tube four inches long up to the ¾ inch collar of the adjustable bit. Then the 'dog' is exactly 2 inches long with the slot ¾ long by ½ wide.
I cant do better than that :)

Agreed. I didn`t know it was specific to the Spitfire.
I do have one from a Lancaster which is another design.

To answer one of the earlier questions, it has a parallel slot because the engaging mechanism is located inside the engine. They were only ever used for starting the engine in a dire emergency.

Pete

The Spitfire ones I have are different to this in respect of the engaging 'dog' and arm. The rest is pretty much the same. Perhaps there were different patterns/variations of Spitfire hand-turning handles? All I can say is that this is not quite the same as what I know to be Spitfire examples.

Blimey!, I'm glad I bumped the thread instead of letting it slide.
Thanks all, lets hope you can narrow this down to specifics:)
