The aircraft is a restoration project rather than a machine that is currently airworthy. With the majority of P51 restorations being done in the USA,it's possible that this British-registered machine never even reached these shores!

This machine certainly did reach the UK. It was one of the Mustangs recovered from Israel by Robs Lamplough in the 70's. It was later sold as a project and moved to a location in the North East of England.

44-72028 was indeed an ex Israeli P51, it was their FIRST one.
Not to be confused with 44-72228 which was an Ex Swedish P51 that was later sold to Israel.
44-72028 was I have read an Ex 5th Air Force aircraft,Does anyone know to which squadron it belonged or who its pilot(s) was/were?
It was coded "41" in IDFAF service, a/c of the 5th AF Fighter Groups also used numbers could it be that the "41" was a left over from that service and taken on by the IDFAF?

Just been wondering aimlessly around the Internet, and found on the CAA aircraft registrations page that G-LYNE has been cancelled as transfered to America on 29/11/2001, anyone know if this is just a paperwork exercise or if the machine has now left the UK.
