Could well have been 'Fry's Chocolate Spread' - I seem to remember having that as a child too - a much darker brown colour, and more viscous, than Nutella, and I don't remember it containing nuts - but at that age I wouldn't have read the label as no-one I knew seemed to suffer from any food allergies back then.

Not on my menu now, but it has reminded me that back in my youth, or even earlier, we had a chocolate spread in a waxy type container, not glass or plastic. Would it have been Fry's ?
