A depository for the news of deceased, possible celebrity, names that you may have heard of, or not.

(Please don't bother calling them names or pointing out how talentless they were - unless you are one of those numpties who ignores requests and speaks ill of the dead.)

US actor Garry Shandling who influenced a generation of comedians with his Emmy-winning TV series It's Garry Shandling's Show has died, aged 66.

Johan Cruyff, who has died at the age of 68, was one of football's greatest and most significant figures...

A late, foreign sports person I've actually heard of, although I am actually quite intrigued that the web address for a football story is in the rugby union section!

With 37 no 1's in US Country charts and a list of awards as long as your arm, after serving time in San Quentin.

I think the words "Legend in Country and Western Music" would be more appropriate.

R. I. P. MERLE.

Knew the name, can't say I could name one of his songs but then he doesn't seem to have been well known this side of the pond. Then again I recall being told that C&W was the national folk music of America - could you name any British folk musicians, let alone legends?

Anyway, here is someone who few of you will have heard of...

Indonesian pop star Irma Bule bitten by cobra on stage, continues for 45 minutes before fatal collapse

Irma Bule, an Indonesian pop singer known for performing with live snakes, has died after a King Cobra attacked her during a gig this week.
Bule reportedly stood on the snake's tail, causing it to bite her on the thigh during a show at Karrawang, West Java. Remarkably, she continued playing for 45 minutes before falling ill.
An eye-witness, Ferlando Octavion Auzur, said Bule refused an offer of antidote after the bite. But 45 minutes later, she collapsed on stage vomiting and suffering seizures and was taken to hospital, where she died. She was 29.

According to National Geographic, the venom from a single King Cobra bite "is enough to kill 20 people, or even an elephant. King cobras are shy and will avoid humans whenever possible, but they are fiercely aggressive when cornered."
Bule was a folk-pop singer, who regularly performed with large de-fanged snakes. Some reports of the incident said Bule did not realise she had suffered a life-threatening bite.

The last surviving resident of St Kilda, a remote Scottish archipelago which was evacuated in 1930, has died.
Rachel Johnson was born on the main island of Hirta in July 1922 and was eight years old when she, her family and other islanders left the isle.

Life became unsustainable there and all the islanders were removed to the mainland.

Now there is a military radar station with temporary staff, Scottish National Trust volunteers and visiting tourists, but none of them are permanent.

Composer, musician, video artist, teacher, and writer Tony Conrad.

Conrad reportedly introduced Cale and Reed to a book called The Velvet Underground, which is how they got the band's name.

Remember Blake's 7? Remember the Welsh lead character of the first two series', who decided to go and do something else and only reappeared in the last episode of series four? Gareth Thomas?

He has died. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36041534

'Mind the gap,' he said, repeatedly, although he didn't since it paid his bills and made him just a little bit famous. And now Phil Sayer has died.

I recorded hundreds of voiceovers with Phil over the last twenty-odd years - up until just a few weeks ago. Genuinely good bloke who relished the daftness of what he did for a living.

Goodbye to the world's oldest hound, who lived to the equivalent of over 200 human years old...

Maggie the Kelpie, an Australian dog that was possibly the oldest canine in the world, has died.

Owner Brian McLaren, a dairy farmer in Woolsthorp, Victoria, confirmed the news to The Weekly Times.

“She was 30 years old, she was still going along nicely last week, she was walking from the dairy to the office and growling at the cats and all that sort of thing,” he told the newspaper, adding that the dog has started deteriorating two days previously...
