    Interesting News Snippets

Does anyone agree that there is a need for forum space to mention all those things that are of interest in the short term but, would not necessarily sustain a half a dozen or a dozen comments.

For example: Yesterday was the last day of the Six Nations rugby competition. Only of interest perhaps, to few on these Forums. I'd like to have placed a reminder but couldn't find the last Six Nations subject, so didn't bother.

Another example: Lord Neuburger, President of the Supreme Court mentioned that it was desirable that people should not be prevented from venting their often frustrated opinions on contentious issues for fear of condemnation. He thought that commentators who were opposed, were inhibited by the prospect of disapproval, from discussing rascism, homosexuality, ordination of females etc.

My Six Nations snippet was that it was a generally good result. Ireland won (by points difference) the Six Nations title from England. England won the Triple Crown and France was beaten ! Result.

That's a great piece ! I frequently go excavating for ear wax and think frequently about its inefficiencies. When you're digging you are also pushing - not good.

So, exercising the jaw by eating and speaking assists the expulsion of ear wax ? If thats the case my wife never should have any!

Much as we all suspect - you're a sensitive soul. Instead, try some peanut butter.

Over prescription of antibiotics has led to a situation of antibiotic resistance. Frequent use, leads to more use and so effectiveness is much diminshed. This is now a serious problem. At some time in the future even simple infections may not respond to antibiotics.

Help is on hand in the shape of honey. It has for some time been known that honey has pronounced anti bacterial properties, its prime asset is, that it is known to deal with infection by way of a multi layered attack.

England's Chief Medical Officer, Sally Davies, recently said that antibioric resistance is one of the most potent threats to health.

How to get conflicting pieces of advice from medical professionals.
I suffer alot with ear wax and my nurse said every few weeks flush your ears out with olive oil.Don't put anything like cotton wool in them, just pour straight in and leave it to flow out along with any debris. The next nurse said don't do that ,plug the ears up with cotton wool- oh well.
Regarding antibiotics,it actually is quite frightening to think along the lines of them become useless ---War of the Worlds anyone -little bacteria killing off the bigger guys.
I have always thought that it will be something like bacteria that will wipe us out or at least cull the human race once we outgrow and stress this planet,as long as we don't push a big red button first.

                    Trumper

In view of your wax problem, would it be germane to change your tag from 'Trumper' to 'Ear Trumpet' ? .......and talking of brass instruments, how about sneezing into a trombone?

Has anyone heard of something called Waxoyl ? I think it is an automotive product. I wonder - in passing - whether it would be of any use for the subject under discussion ?

Trump. Would you like to investigate on the grounds that you appear to be one of the more audibly challenged ?

Or aurally perhaps. With a not dissimilar problem I was given the olive oil advice about 10 years ago and haven't had the problem since.

                            Charlie,

I mentioned WaxOyl because if there was any corrosion present I'm led to believe that this product would deal with it as well as the wax occasionally present in the ear.

Are there any ENT specialists who are members ? Do you dispense free advice ?

My newspaper carries an article about gender preferences for children. This is linked to a drive to encourage more children to pick up a book and read. Some specialists have asked that book publishers should not differentiate gender preferences by their choice of book jacket.

This hasn't fooled the little ones. Boys are buying only those books that appeal to them and girls the same. What's that I can hear ? Stating the bleedin' obvious. Quite.

I have two girl grandchildren who are so thoroughly girlie girls - thank goodness, that most of their lives are dominated by things all pink and frothy. That's the way it should be.
