    Hi All,
27vet - Ralph I had heard since that the film contains many scenes in which the Old Glory features so I think the main problem was with just that one scene on the moon ? It was sad really to see such outrage but I do understand why and in all honesty it shouldn't have been cut just for PC reasons. I don't know why they thought the need was there to cut it as it is an historical fact.
Whether most people agree or not history should be taught to include both good and bad historical points no matter what they are, you cannot hide history through white washing out certain history by being PC IMPO, how are people meant to learn if we alter historical fact ?

Back to the thread, I watched the Ipcress File 1965 over the Christmas period via BBCi, despite it's age still a notable Michael Caine film with the usual mix of 60's era co-stars and bit part actors that you will recognise, all in all a very enjoyable espionageish film to us old farts......

    Starring:- Michael Caine,Guy Doleman,Nigel Green,Sue Lloyd,Gordon Jackson,Aubrey Richards,Frank Gatliff,Thomas Baptiste,Oliver MacGreevy,Freda Bamford,Pauline Winter, Anthony Blackshaw,Barry Raymond,David Glover,Stanley Meadows,Peter Ashmore,Michael Murray,Anthony Baird,Tony Caunter,Douglas Blackwell and Glynn Edwards.

Tasked with investigating the kidnappings and brainwashed reappearances of top scientists, including Dr. Radcliffe (Aubrey Richards), the insubordinate British spy Harry Palmer (Michael Caine) navigates his way through criminals, secret agents, and his superiors (Nigel Green, Guy Doleman). While attempting to bring in the suspect Bluejay (Frank Gatliff), Palmer discovers a mysterious audiotape labeled "IPCRESS," an inconspicuous, but ominous, piece of evidence.

Sorry I've not checked in on here in a while - have only watched a couple of new films recently!

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, and Joseph Mazzello (yes, the little boy from Jurassic Park!) as John Deacon.
Flawed, but very enjoyable, biopic of the Queen frontman, from his joining of the band to the Live Aid concert in 1985 (which I remember watching on TV!). Worth a watch, even if you're not a die hard Queen fan. 4.5/5

    Overlord (2018)

US troops are dropped over the Normandy beachhead to bring down a radar tower which could threaten the invasion fleet, but discover a much, much more sinister plot involving the villagers nearby. 4/5

    The Tiger (2015)

A South Korean film about a retired hunter forced to pick up his rifle in order to hunt down the last Siberian tiger in the kingdom. Although the tiger acts like it's just escaped from The Matrix, the film is surprisingly good, and a little sad at the same time. 4/5

    Hi All,
Kidnapped 1971 (Via Talking Pictures channel Sky 328). Dated now and probably historically inaccurate by todays standards ? None the less still watchable and you can forgive Michael Caine's Scottish accent, it's of it's time so not everybody would like this drama., but I did and that's the point....................

    Starring:- Michael Caine,Lawrence Douglas,Vivien Heilbron,Trevor Howard,Claire Nielson,Jack HawkinsDonald Pleasence,Gordon Jackson,Andrew McCulloch,Freddie Jones,Jack Watson
Peter Jeffrey,Roger Booth,Geoffrey Whitehead and Terry Richards.

Following a bloody defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, a naive young man, David Balfour, is cheated of his inheritance by an avaricious uncle.

    Hi All,
Singularity 2017 (Via Sky Cinema). A low budget production and not what I thought it was going to be, more of a Sci-Fi love story aimed at teenagers, just a watch and forget film with a couple of known stars...

Starring:- John Cusack,Carmen Argenziano,Julian Schaffner,Jeannine Wacker and Eileen Grubba.

In 2020, a supercomputer deems mankind a threat and launches an all-out attack. Nearly a century later, two teenagers struggle to survive in the rubble of a ruined world, hoping to reach a sanctuary where humans live without fear of robots.

    Hi All,
27vet - Did they restore the missing flag that caused a little controversy ?

The Justice League - 2017 (Via Sky Cinema) Despite the Superman moustache cover up , at times though it seemed a bit video gamey viewing saying that I forgave these two errors and enjoyed the film, just another way to forget about the worlds troubles .......

    Starring:- Ben Affleck,Henry Cavill,Amy Adams,Gal Gadot,Ezra Miller,Jason Momoa,Ray Fisher,Jeremy Irons,Diane Lane,Connie Nielsen,J. K. Simmons,Ciarn Hinds,Sergi Constance,
    Nick McKinless, Aurore Lauzeral,David Thewlis,Robin Wright,Amber Heard,Julian Lewis Jones,Francis Magee,Joe Morton,Billy Crudup,(Joe Manganiello and Jesse Eisenberg End Credits)
Michael McElhatton,Holt McCallany, and Marc McClure.

Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity, and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly-awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes in Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash, it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012 (Via Sky Cinema) Finally got to watch the final Christopher Nolan Batman instalment which I have to say was worth the wait IMPO. Any batman fan will like the film without being to critical, just another film from the Sci-Fi/Fantasy world that you can get lost in and leave the real world and all it's problems for a good couple of hours....

    Starring:- Christian Bale,Michael Caine,Gary Oldman,Anne Hathaway,Tom Hardy,Marion Cotillard,Joseph Gordon-Levitt,Morgan Freeman,Tom Conti,Matthew Modine,Ben Mendelsohn, Burn Gorman,Alon Abutbul,Juno Temple,Daniel Sunjata,Chris Ellis,Brett Cullen,Cillian Murphy,Liam Neeson,William Devane,Josh Pence,Nestor Carbonell,Aidan Gillen,Rob Brown, Desmond Harrington,Josh Stewart,Christopher Judge,Noel Gugliemi,(Pittsburgh Steelers cameos :- Ben Roethlisberger,Hines Ward,Troy Polamalu,Willie Colon,Maurkice Pouncey,

(United States Senator - Patrick Leahy) and Thomas Lennon.

It has been eight years since Batman (Christian Bale), in collusion with Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman), vanished into the night. Assuming responsibility for the death of Harvey Dent, Batman sacrificed everything for what he and Gordon hoped would be the greater good. However, the arrival of a cunning cat burglar (Anne Hathaway) and a merciless terrorist named Bane (Tom Hardy) force Batman out of exile and into a battle he may not be able to win.

    Clerks/Clerks II

Kevin Smith's classic comedies about two losers in crappy jobs trying to make a better lives for themselves.

One of the few occasions where I think the sequel is better than the original!

    Hi All,
Counter Attack 1945 (Via talking Pictures channel Sky328) Classic B/W 40's war film set on the eastern front, takes place in one location for the majority of the film. If you like war films then you should like this despite it's lack of action....

    Starring:- Paul Muni,Marguerite Chapman,Larry Parks,Harro Meller,Roman Bohnen,George Macready,Eric Rolf,Ludwig Donath,Rudolph Anders,Philip Van Zandt,Frederick Giermann,
Wolfgang Zilzer,Ivan Triesault,Louis Adlon and Darren McGavin.

During World War II, two Russians, soldier Alexei Kulkov (Paul Muni) and navigator Lisa Elenko (Marguerite Chapman), are trapped underground with a group of Germans. Having recently witnessed a colleague's skillful interrogation of a Nazi prisoner, Kulkov tries to prod the enemy soldiers into sharing details about Berlin's strategy. But one of the Germans is just as shrewd, and he and Kulkov engage in a set of mind games that mirror the methods employed on the battlefield.

    Hurricane

The long-awaited English language version of the story of 303 Squadron.

The low-budget look of the film has been commented on frequently, but apart from that it isn't actually too bad a film. Welsh actor Iwan Rheon steals the show as real-life aviator Jan Zumbach, and it was great to see Dark Blue World star Krystof Hadek appearing as Czech pilot Josef Frantisek.

There are a couple of glaring inaccuracies (the black and white undersides of the Hurricane being wrong for the time period, for example), but I can live with that. Loved the fact that they used a Messerschmitt 108 to play the "bad guy" for a few scenes (most notably the shots looking back at a real Hurricane chasing it).

Not bad, but not brilliant, either. 3.5 out of 5.

    Carnivore: Werewolf of London

The DVD cover says "it's like Dog Soldiers, but with civilians."

It's nothing like Dog Soldiers. It's crap. The only thing they have in common is their setting (a remote house) and the fact that the characters have very few options open to them to defend themselves from a marauding werewolf. There's a couple of gratuitous nude scenes that clearly show they were running out of ideas for the film.

1 out of 5. A little T and A stop this from being a complete write-off, but even that's being generous.

    The Monster

Mother and daughter Zoe Kazan and Ella Ballentine must make their way to a relative's house in the middle of a massive rainstorm. In the process, the car breaks down, and they find themselves stalked by some kind of horrific monster.

A simple enough premise, with a rather good animatronic monster attacking them.

    4 out 5.

    The Void

A group of strangers stranded in a remote hospital become victims of a gruesome supernatural being that's being summoned from the depths of a place beyond hell.

Not bad, with plenty of prosthetic gore instead of CGI crap, but a bit confusing to follow at times.

    3 out of 5.

    Dark Blue World

An all-time favourite, telling the story of two Czech fighter pilots who come to the UK to fight against the Luftwaffe, and who end up falling in love with the same woman.

    A solid 5.
